Christopher Nolan did make Memento, a GREAT film that had a limited release, which allowed him to make Insomnia with two pretty mainstream actors and of course we know what happened after that...
I think i'll admit a 70/30 split. It's true that each indie/mainstream both make worthwhile films. I just think indies have more to offer.
