Indie vs Mainstream

If you look at the total of indie releases you will see it is a lot bigger than one would expect. Bigger actually, than the big studio output. Of all those films only a handful a year are really worth watching. But the big studios suffer the same problem. Of all their films, only a few really stand out as well.

Styles may be different, budgets may be different, but a good movie is a good movie whether it costs $200,000 or 200 million. Whether it has George Clooney or George Noname. I enjoy films from both camps.

In fact sometimes the best films come from mainstream people that go "indie" to get their projects going. Also many "indie" directors end up making great big budget films. Christopher Nolan did make Memento, a GREAT film that had a limited release, which allowed him to make Insomnia with two pretty mainstream actors and of course we know what happened after that...

I think i'll admit a 70/30 split. It's true that each indie/mainstream both make worthwhile films. I just think indies have more to offer.

I think they both have equal things to offer and, besides content and/or plot, are not truly different from each other (again, movies are movies!) and I'll just respectfully agree to disagree.


Both try to tell good stories with engaging characters... that's the simple just of it.

You my friend are correct. Movies are movies this is true, it all boils down to preference I suppose. Love your overall outlook.
