No director's cut . That plus those effects haven't aged well and will look even worse in 4K.
Romero's Pre-US Release Cannes Cut (2:17) from the press release is what has also been known as the Director's Cut and Extended Cut over the years

As others have hinted, I hope this isn’t too limited to begin with, mainly to stop those horrible scalper types getting their grubby claws on extra copies and making big profits.
It’ll sell like proverbial hot cakes, so just have a massive initial print run to meet demand and keep everyone happy.

That's what people used to say about old films on Blu-ray.

Resolution doesn't make practical effects look better or worse, especially for films like this shot 35mm where they're already filtered through the forgiving gauze of the film format. It just shows what's already there. The gore effects in this do stand up I think. The blue make-up, well it is what it is.

The Cannes Cut is the Extended Cut included in the Ultimate Edition DVD. The US Theatrical Cut is George A. Romero's Director's Cut. This is as comprehensive a release as the Ultimate Edition DVD.....which is absolutely amazing! This will be one of the best releases of the format if they include the ORIGINAL audio mixes.

Just got word, it's a brand new Dolby Atmos mix and all the gunshots have been replaced with the one for The Terminator DVD.

The funny thing is, I could live with the current 5.1 mix. It hasn't been broken down and completely remixed with lots of new effects, different timings, alternative music recordings etc etc etc, it sounds more like they're chasing the mono mix around the room (like the bit in the generator room when Flyboy shoots and the bullet ricochets all over the place).

I'd be ok with that, but it would still be disappointing. We've waited so many years for this that for them to omit the original audio mix would be offensive.

Yeah, so much so that it's not going to happen, just having a remix I mean. It will have the original audio.

This will sell like gangbusters unless a U.S. label announces it too, so I hope they understand that and make a large print run of whatever deluxe version they will surely do.

I'll pay $100 for this on Ebay if I have to, but I don't want to.
If the disc content is the same I'm not too fuzzed, but I worry that they do something silly like "get the limited edition for all the cuts" or "if you want it in 4K you gotta pick up the limited edition," which would suck if they print a relatively low number of copies.

And then there's the fact that the 4K always seems to include the blu ray or a blu ray as well. If it's just one 4K/blu-ray w/ seamless branching and extras blu rays, I reckon about £30-40 like the JC 4K sets. If the cuts are separate discs, whether just 4K or both, its going to go well towards and possibly above $100.
It'll be pricey but I don't see it being $100. I mean maybe they paid whatshisname's high asking price and are baking on selling it for a high premium... and I would support that honestly... but I'd say it's more likely to be "normal" high priced, like $40 or so. We shall see.

Heard on the grapevine approximate MSRP for both editions:

Blu: $149.99
UHD: $249.99

They come with a free Dawn logo bib and coupon for 50 cents off a KFC family meal too!
You heard it here first!

There's no way the 4K discs will be limited. The licensing, scanning, and authoring won't be cheap. They'll need to sell as much product as possible. I'm sure they'll do a limited set upfront, with a jacked-up price to help offset all the upfront costs. They'd be fools to not do an unlimited release eventually. It's like how people thought they'd have no chance to buy the StudioCanal John Carpenter discs. Of course they were going to put out regular editions eventually! Not everybody wanted the extra goodies.

Of course they'll do a normal version, but I want the limited one. Unless it's just a steelbook or something, in which case pfffffft.

Yeah I doubt any Blu-ray discs will be exclusive to a limited edition. Any limited edition will just have a big thick slipbox with some extra flair (or a steelbook) and maybe a soundtrack or something like they did for The Changeling.

Wondering how Criterion is doing with negotiations with Richard Rubinstein. Wasn't there a story a couple months ago about how he wants a specific dollar amount and than threatened he would burn the original film elements if his demands weren't meant? The president of Criterion Collection was trying to put a deal together. As I understand it he only owns the US rights. I'm all over the Second Sight release but was just wondering what if Criterion is close to a deal too.
