QUESTION: Is all this talk bout "break-in" for Plasma's (Pioneers) really that important, I am coming from a DLP and didn't have to worry about any of this before. Last night I played around with some of the controls, and watch the Hockey Game. (looked amazing ) Now should I be doing anything differently 150-200hrs of break-in with still images, DVD or Thumbdrive. Really I dont think I can sit around and wait that long, after spending a good coin on the Awesome Kuro!!! All I was told from the sales rep at the Futureshop box store, was to make sure I am not watching any regular digital stations make sure its all HD and at full-screen, and no PS3 gaming. Is that safe enough, and should I be Ok, with watching some Blu-Rays this weekend.

Any info greatly appreciated.

P.S. Too bad about the "pending" news about there stop in production. Did I buy just in time, or should I be looking elsewhere?
I wouldn't worry too much about IR or burn-in with the Kuro. Just limit 4:3 shows and static images for the first 150-200 hours. The point of breaking in a plasma is to age all phosphors evenly by showing a uniform image for hours at a time.

It's not really necessary, but can be beneficial. Some people follow the procedure so that their picture will look as close as possible to the picture settings recommended by D-Nice over at avsforums (he is a Kuro guru). The Kuro is one of the best plasmas at preventing IR and burn-in, so I wouldn't worry too much about ruining your set by watching blu-rays. If you want to do the break-in procedure, go ahead. If not, just enjoy your set, which has amazing PQ.

+1. Its a long thread, but I agree that everything you want to know about the 9G NE sets are there.

Also, if you want to look at picture's of and from the kuro, you can go here (M5ster posted some fabulous pics from his set)

It is my understanding that they are required too by law, not that they would not if there were an issue.

I thought I had read somewhere that companies have to support their products for 8 - 10 years after production is cancelled.

Of course all bets are off if a company goes belly up.

So, I'm thinking about upgrading to a 5020FD. I've looked everywhere, even the Pioneer site, it says "5x the black level for unmatched contrast", but I cannot find the contrast (native or dynamic) ANYWHERE!

Any help here people?

EDIT: I'd also like to add, I mainly use my tv for gaming and blurays. Would this be an adequate option or are there problems/hitches/anything that I should be more aware of?

(I do intend to do over 100 hour break-in period.)

Pioneer does not release actual specifications on contrast level. Besides, they're all a bunch of hooey anyway, don't know how anybody measures these damnable levels, actual ANSI contrast levels are more like 750:1 for a good plasma, this whole "1,000,000:1 Dynamic!" claims are nonsense. But, Pioneer plasmas have the best ones, that's all you have to know.

It'll be fine. I barely plan on doing any break-in. Maybe for a Samsung or a Panasonic, but for a Pioneer? Just don't watch movies too brightly, and it's not like I play games or watch TV anyway. I'll probably watch just a few full-screen ratio movies at first, but only for a few days.

I find more heat coming from the front of the panel (6020) than the rear vents

Yes, Plasma TVs (at least the Pioneers [my PRO-111FD]) do generate heat. But, you might be able to lower your thermostat in your Home Theater room.

I don't think that you will really have to worry too much about the heat. Big power amps can put out more heat than the Plasma TV. Now, if it is in hot weather and you are running several large power amps (I have 3 in service now and will ultimately be using all 5 of mine) along with the Plasma TV, you may just have to run the AC a little more (preferably not on the same circuit ). Some of the big Krell power amps are known to put out so much heat, they have been likened to space heaters.

The review of the 6020 by D-Nice lists the measured ANSI contrast ratio at 14,600:1. The Pro-111FD came in at 13,833:1, so I would imagine the 5020 would be in the 13-14K:1 range.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?! 13,000 for ANSI? That's something incredible - considering the numbers I've heard for LCDs doing the black/white squares test...I'm excited for Wednesday even more!!!

Okay so what am I missing.

I have 2 Sony TVs and both, when I hit Zoom take the image and zoom in all 4 sides.

All of you have seen the programs on SD stations that are set up for an wide screen TV. When you zoom they fill it...no black bars on either side.

When I zoom on my Pioneer on one of those programs it just stretches the image up and down, does not strech side to side.

I have tried every setting multiple times...none seem to do that.
