Pioneer 9G Owners Thread - Present & Future - Blu-ray Forum

First, a humble request from JJ:

Verily and ye, bequeath upon me thy settings on thine own 5020FD, so that I may hast a basis for mine own tweakings upon its arrival in a few fortnights. Lord be w'ye.

All I know is that it has limited modification options, when compared to the 5010 or the PRO line, I'll probably be running it in movie mode as I don't watch much TV or play many video games - doubt I'll be running any serious "break-in" hours. Probably just a few full-screen movies at the outset, but 3-4 days max, if even. I'm not too concerned with IR. Barely.

My Pioneers have NO IR what so ever, no matter what.

There in a league of there own. What, 2 more gens before Panny or any other plasma will match or come close. Pioneer has somthing very special as far as TV's are concerned. It's not something Sammy or Panny can do by "turning off pixels". I love Pioneer Plasmas & I'm glad I've been able to pick up 3 in the past month. I wish I would of been buying them all along, but the 9G is perfect place to start I guess. There the BEST! I hope Pioneer will be able to get back in the game some day.

I had heard of D-Nice! I was reading over the 8G thread a few days back. Seems that his settings are the widespread ones.

Yea you should do the 150 hour break in and try his settings.

Did you get the PM I sent? I just looked at the settings on AVS & what do you know! There just like or close anyway to the ones I gave you! LOL! There a starting point for you anyway.

Sadly I have to work so it sits in a box till mostlikely tomorrow night.

If you ordered from Amazon, there is a good chance it'll be early. Mine was scheduled for delivery yesterday and I ended up getting it last Friday.

I've owned a Pro-111FD since November. This is my first Plasma set. I've owned several LCD's in the past and I continue to use a 46XBR4 in the living room. The LCD is nice technology but so far there is no comparison with respect to accurate color representation and picture detail when compared to the Pioneer plasma IMO (perhaps the Sony XBR8 competes). Deep blacks make all the difference in the world.

I have about 120 hours on my PIO and I recently used ControlCal to input D-NICE's recommended ISF settings. This change does improve the picture detail over the Pure mode. Next step is I made arrangements to have my PIO professionally calibrated (scheduled sometime in May). I am hoping the pro cal will allow the PIO to live up to its full potential.

I am really disappointed that Pioneer is dropping out of the TV business. They really won me over as a long term customer.

Oh I will be impressed...my wife will not be so much...

She still watches SD shows when there are HD stations. Drives me INSANE.

And no divorce...just UGLY looks.

Just got my Pioneer Kuro 5020FD yesterday evening, Man the blacks and colours just jump out at you. So glad I went this way instead of the LCD I was looking at. I am coming from a DLP (which showed great colours too) but there is no comparison. I expected better Blu-Ray production on my new set, but even the Rogers HD Cable feed looks better on my Kuro.

QUESTION: Is all this talk bout "break-in" for Plasma's (Pioneers) really that important, I am coming from a DLP and didn't have to worry about any of this before. Last night I played around with some of the controls, and watch the Hockey Game. (looked amazing

) Now should I be doing anything differently 150-200hrs of break-in with still images, DVD or Thumbdrive. Really I dont think I can sit around and wait that long, after spending a good coin on the Awesome Kuro!!!

All I was told from the sales rep at the Futureshop box store, was to make sure I am not watching any regular digital stations make sure its all HD and at full-screen, and no PS3 gaming. Is that safe enough, and should I be Ok, with watching some Blu-Rays this weekend.

Any info greatly appreciated.

P.S. Too bad about the "pending" news about there stop in production. Did I buy just in time, or should I be looking elsewhere?

No you shouldn't be looking elsewhere ( if you want) pioneer makes great tv's, tomorrow we'll know whats going on with pioneers furture in PDP.
