Thanks for the shout out! I'll be attending the Areo screening, too, with my fingers crossed.

And I'm planning a classic 3-D matinee screening for Sunday, March 24, title to be announced this weekend...

Nice March 14 with Dial M for Murder, March 15 Creature from the Black Lagoon intro'd by Julie Adams son and a Disney feature on March 17. I'm guessing the animated shorts are all Disney?

If anyone goes also check out the LACMA 3D exhibition and Eric Kurland's 3D space!

Some questions on THE GLASS WEB:

Were the vertical alignment issues corrected?

Is it the proper widescreen aspect ratio?

Thanks!

I just got back from the Dial M/Glass Web screening. I met Mike Ballew (Bavanut) and Eric Kurland too. Both spoke positively about The Glass Web presentation after the screening.

The Glass Web was presented in 1.37:1 aspect ratio. Not widescreen.

Vertical alignment looked good for the most part. The only shots that looked "off" were during the sequence where Edward G. Robinson and John Forsythe's characters were driving along a dirt road next to the ocean. It's possible these shots used mattes of the ocean. If these mattes had vertical alignment issues, then simply adjusting the vertical alignment for the whole frame wouldn't work. If this is the case, then Greg Kintz' expertise would have been helpful to fix it. A digital rotoscope may be the tool to use.

There were shots where the cameras were out of phase which created a "watery" image, but these were very few.

The DCP overall looked much sharper and more detailed than the 35mm print I saw 6 years ago at the 2013 3D Film Expo. Hopefully, Universal can fix the aspect ratio, the ocean matte sequences, and find a Region B distributor to avoid music rights' issues.

I'm not sure why some theaters rejected the DCP for The Glass Web. Overall, it's a beautiful presentation.

Our good friend and colleague Jack Theakston is immensely talented and wears many archival hats. Here's a new interview with Jack talking about the complex restoration of the first three-strip Technicolor feature, BECKY SHARP.

It's coming to Blu-ray from Kino Lorber on April 16 and is very highly recommended!

Sorry to bump a mostly unrelated thread, but since there was a bit of discussion about my efforts to release PROTOTYPE a couple of months ago in the discussion here, I just wanted to quickly alert you all to the crowdsourcing campaign we've just launched to release the film on 3D Blu-ray. An immense thank you to anyone who supports the release and/or spreads the word!

I'd love to find out and contribute to the crowdfunding mentioned in the above post #1946, but I won't be forced into using another browser! You ought to fix that, Astrostic.

Hey Bob, now that it's released, isn't it time to change your avatar from hot Arlene to hot Rhonda?

I've tried to change it MANY times but it won't let me. I finally gave up.

Thank goodness for your sake it didn't freeze up on that Maze illustration. Yikes!

I wonder if this qualifies to fulfill Bob's "never seen in 3D" hint!(LOL)

I will say this much; the 3-D photography in ADAM AND 6 EVES is stunning. It literally delivers on the "lover in your arms" tagline from the publicity for Bwana Devil!

Bob, do you know if any 3DFA restorations will be shown at TCM Film Festival this year?

Being the theme is romance in the movies, we strongly recommended Sangaree but it was not excepted for the festival I’m sorry to say.

Although I have absolutely no desire to see beautiful, semi-naked women in gloriously restored 3D, I will grudgingly do my duty to support the 3D Film Archive's work by purchasing this.
