Not as likely, but just as legitimate:

The Glass Web
Southwest Passage
The Diamond Wizard
Hannah Lee
Cat Women of the Moon

Wade Williams may own and physically possess the OCN's for those last 2, but he doesn't own the rights, those films are in public domain, and Bob may be resourceful enough to find other source materials!!!

Please let it be true. Given that over a third of all Golden Age 3-D titles are Westerns, the genre does seem woefully under-represented on blu-ray thus far. Gun Fury, and the West itself, really came alive for me in 3-D.

Can't wait to watch Revenge of the Creature for the first time tonight. The German box set just arrived! No doubt it'll wind up being a Golden Age double bill. That compulsion to pick a second title and watch it right away while the 3-D magic is still strong ... well, I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Tell us all if "Revenge" looks better when seen from a single disc!!

Actually, you and Warren are both correct, as Sensio released this title in their own proprietary Sensio format as well as the field-sequential format. They did the same for Jaws 3-D, but some of their other titles were released as Sensio formatted only.

TAZA in the official Sensio format is squeezed 4x3 side by side, but is not 100% compatible with the later hSBS 16x9 format used by 3DTV projectors and televisions. The Sensio disc was 4x3 squeezed, intended to be played back on a 4x3 3D display. So what does this mean when its played on an HD 3D display? Everyone is slightly stretched out. Plus, the Sensio DVD resolution is *half* standard def resolution per eye. Even when all Sensio enhancements are adhered to with specialty Sensio software playout or via vintage hardware, this easily falls short of even hSBS 1080 content, let alone true 1080p per eye 3-D.

Sadly the older transfer also suffers from cropping on the sides and alignment issues. This title deserves a proper 3-D release!

The last time I saw this favorite double-feature in a theatre was in 1961 when I was just out of high school. Now, this grown-up "kid" would be delighted to Blu-ray his favorite "Class" Saturday double feature in my living room. Glad for "River." Now for "World."
And, yes, I would have loved to have seen BOTH of them in 3-D!!

The Oppo UDP-203 has its own side-by-Side processing so it can display a 4x3 frame properly. Testing this function I’ve found that my TV still does it better when it’s a 16x9 frame.

Not sure where to put this, but Oscilloscope has recently posted two very insightful responses to the Quad Cinema's recent Silver Age screenings:

3D, Part 1: James Cameron and the Broken Promise of the Third Wave

3D, Part 2: How 3D Peaked At Its Valley

He was "won over" to 3D by watching an 80s revival marathon? That man needs to watch some Golden Age 3D. It's clear he's never seen anything if he's lumping them in the same category as Comin At Ya!. As if James Cameron was the first one with the novel idea of not poking your eyes out.

I do agree with him that modern 3D is far too often limited to CGI-laden worlds. It's biggest disappointment to me is using shallow depth in many of the studio-produced natively-shot features. There's only a few non-animated natives per year now anyway, mostly independent or foreign. In that regard, the third 3D boom is over, and we are in the exception years.

Also, I'd love for Prototype to make it to Blu-ray 3D. What good is a 3D movie with a run so limited that only certain cities can see it?

Not saying this is true of Vadim, but don't forget that many casual cinephiles don't have 3D tech at home, and will prioritize rep screenings that are showing on 35mm (which these Silver Age screenings were), so I don't think it should be that surprising that a relatively young New Yorker's first encounter with retro 3D would be this series.

But I mean, if anything, to see a 3D skeptic won over by films made during what's generally regarded to be a lesser period in the format's history (quality wise) carries some rhetorical weight, too. It's good press that takes a struggling format seriously, and is targeted at a sector of the cinephile scene (i.e. arthouse lovers) that probably sees 3D as a capitalist, anti-art nuisance, so I'm not complaining.

Thanks for posting. It could also go in this forum https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=260915

I was lucky enough to see Prototype at MOMI last year and look forward to seeing your other work. Also is there any place where I can read your opinions of the Quad's offerings?

Oh wow, nice of a filmmaker to join us. Good luck getting your film to market. I've spent a few years living here in Galveston and will be one of your first preorders. Please update us with good news.

It must be difficult trying to make sense of 3D if your favorite viewing experiences are Yogi Bear and Goodbye to Language. Now that he's piqued, invite him over to see Inferno, Dial M, Creature, or House of Wax on Blu-ray 3D to see where 3D features came from. Maybe even snippets of 3-D Rarities for that matter. Motivation for essay Part 3.

Thanks for checking it out . I haven't written anything on the Quad's series anywhere yet, though I do echo many of Vadim's sentiments. (Flesh for Frankenstein and Treasure of the Crown Crowns were my highlights of that weekend, fwiw.) I do contribute to Cinema Scope magazine, though, and review new arthouse 3D films there whenever I can. Have written about 3x3D, Goodbye to Language, Gaspar Noé's Love, and Long Day's Journey into Night in their pages so far.

I'm not quite sure what you mean there, Warren, but Revenge looks pretty damn good on this German disc. I didn't bother watching the US one last year, immediately sent it back for a refund when I heard of the screw-up. The 3-D here is everything I hoped it would be, and the PQ is very good. I also really enjoyed the film itself; it's full of creative touches, has a perfect setting (the aquatic park), and the creature is given plenty of screen time.

The only downside here is the price of this box set, seeing as I already own the first film in 3-D and don't really care about the third (2-D only).

I bet you'd easily cover the costs of a run just from pre-orders on here. You could take advantage of direct sales as opposed to getting hammered in the wholesale market. Good luck, I hope you find a way to do it

I was referring to the fact that the Universal "corrected" non-SBS disc still crams both "Revenge" and "Walks Among Us" onto one disc, while the German Koch issue I'm told separates those two films onto separate discs(true?). So does that make "Revenge" look any better? Of course we'd have to hear from a poster who possesses both.
