Only have the first one and never got the set, so I think I will this time. Never sees the sequels.

Same. I didn't care about the new audio mix on 1, or the longer doc on RAVAGER. But a new transfer on II has me sold.

Apparently with "More extras to come".

So I guess their license for Phantasm II lapsed and now they'll… temporarily? have it again? I've thought that was the reason the first set didn't stay in print for long.

I'm very happy about this. I don't need a sphere ball replica dinger, but the set looks great.

II is amazing, IMO. It's my favorite of them (not saying it's the best quality, just my fave). It's got a bit of an EVIL DEAD 2 thing going on. Sorta retells the original, while also continuing from that story, with a bigger, studio budget.

III has its moments. Its also got the annoying 90s trope of "bad ass kid", but....a fun ride. Not an bad watch by any means.

IV I think is pretty fantastic, despite being the most toned down of the series. The lack of budget sort of forced them to focus more on mythology etc. Slower paced, etc, but a really solid flic.

V(RAVAGER) is.....a movie alright. Lack of any budget, filming in chunks over several years. Coscarelli handing directing duties over to a children's show director. It's....messy. Worth a watch, but, sadly a let down for us Phans who waited so long for it.

Still, definitely recommend buying it.

The first set was an agreement with Shout/Scream on the PII disc. Then Shout's license lapsed not long after.

I'm assuming WellGo got it themselves for the 4k restore?

Now I'm debating selling the first box set while the prices are still decent to fund/pay for this....

Don't care about the packaging, but as for the 4K remaster of II... why not just do it right the first time?

Pass.

I'll also have to get this just for the 4K restoration of Phantasm 2. I love the new artwork, but I wonder if the box on the right will hold the films in individual cases like the previous set.

Because....they didn't have the rights to II the first time, and were using a disc from a different label??

The description makes me worried about the packaging. Please don’t release some enormous set that takes up a huge amount of space. I only have so much room for my collection before my wife makes me get rid of stuff.

Make a deal with her. Let her keep only 500 of her 1,000+ shoe collection. Watch her drop the subject altogether

Happy with the individual releases but when they release a stand-alone Phantasm II later I'll grab that.

Will be interesting to see pricing and how this all turns out. If they release 2 by itself, I'll be just fine with the old set I have. But glad for those that missed it the first go around.

Oooh cool. Thank you for clarifying. I figured WellGo licensed it directly from Universal on the first go. So maybe that gives some hope that this box won't be as limited this time around.
