I can't wait to see these in person.

I'm still stunned that they're actually in 1.85! Proper original ratio...only now we don't get the previous 5.1 mix. Hey Warners: you don't have to give something and then take something away, just FYI

I see what people mean about the BD shots, might as well have called it The Cyan Knight Returns

They did add stuff that wasn’t there and it’s noticeable. In the opening fight against the two goons they added a loud cape “swoosh” that was never there before that happens right after they shoot Batman and he stands up. The sound occurs before he even lifts up his cape.

Right? How the hell did Forever and B&R escape the cyan highlights menace?

No idea. I was puzzled myself. Maybe Bill Pope sneaked into the grading room, but was removed by security after Batman Returns... Grader guy had no choice but to leave Batman Forever and Robin as is.

Actually, 89 looks rather good. There's more color variance. But Batman Returns is buried in cyan. Someone just fell asleep on "cyan the shit out of it" button.

'89 new BD still has a shitload of it in the highlights though.

The new SDR disc of 2001:ASO suffers from the exact same heavy cyan tinted highlights, so I dunno how much blame we should really be attributing to Pope when it comes to the Matrices, to me it seems to be something that Warners' colourists are doing with their new in-house transfers in general (bearing in mind that the Warner Archive crew are a different bunch than the main remastering crew which is why WAC titles aren't similarly afflicted).

God I can't wait for these. I've been seeing them pop up on eBay without the digital code and Blu-ray for a few bucks less. As tempting as it is, I'm going to wait until release date so I can have the complete package. Just trying to decide if I'll also buy Batman and Robin to complete the collection...

And application is random. Not only between movies, but also within films too. From shot to shot cyan highlights are on-off. I wrote this about the first Matrix. The sequels actually didn't suffer from it. Just graded into more consistent teal in general.

Seeing how it's 2001, Batman 89-Returns and the first Matrix, someone is selecting more revered titles. Because less beloved sequels didn't get this much "attention".

Not disputing that. It's obvious even in the clip posted yesterday. During the batmobile chase or in some shots Joker has cyan face (where does he get those toys!).

You gotta love that old joke about how the more that studios 'care' about something the more they seem to mess it up.

But those super-cyan kamehameha highlights are absolutely present in the other two Matrix movies too.

Damaging enthusiasm.

Yes, but it was graded in more consistent way. IMO, it annoys less due to it not being applied only for every second/third shot like in the first Matrix.

Just got back from a Burton/Schumacher marathon! Had a great time, although the audience were obnoxious during Batman & Robin: mocking every other line, and sarcastically clapping at the end. Pfffft! It's a genuinely good film, you ****ers.

Looks like the remastered video has hit iTunes for at least BATMAN ‘89 and even 1080p, it looks pretty splendid!

The 89 film and Returns are supposed to have cooler palettes, the previous 89 Blu has an incorrect magenta push. The blacks are supposed to be deep and dark, and this is the closest we’ve ever seen 89 and Returns to their 35mm.

They look fantastic.
