Is this like being a cretan?

Anyway, I picked up the set - two, in fact - in the US when Criterion had their most recent flash sale on, meaning it cost $150, plus NY taxes of I think 6%, equivalent to about £120. Anything between this and c.£190 is a pretty reasonable result; though if you do the maths and work out a per film price for the 39 works included, frankly the set would still be a steal at £300 or more, much more....

Be warned: it is huge and weighs an absolute ton, and might not take kindly to transatlantic postal handling in terms of either cost or preservation.

I paid $268 (£210) in total from amazon.com with all the import fees and delivery included. Even if you’re paying a little more it’s still worth it, the book is glorious, the box itself is wonderful and you’re getting 39 Criterion Bergman films! I’m also a big fan of the way they’ve themed it as a film festival, I honestly can’t see any other box set ever topping this for me.

Also I have no doubt this will go OOP and go the way of the AK100 set in the future, price wise, so I’d say anyone that is tempted should just bite the bullet and get it while they can.

Thanks for the responses folks. I'm gonna keep my eye out for one under £200 (shipped to Ireland) and hopefully I'll get lucky, otherwise if I still don't have one after the summer I'll just pay what I have to.. to be fair I'd easily drop €40 to upgrade Persona alone! So defo think it's worth at least £300 in terms of value. Not too much overlap for me as I only have the Artificial Eye Early Box and the Tartan Seven Seal on Blu and a handful of the old Tartan DVDs which I'd gladly upgrade.

Got mine in the Barnes and Noble sale for around £120 which is a pretty amazing price. I'd say wait for the next sale either at B&N or the Criterion site unless you want it sooner.

I really hope for a future comprehensive Kurosawa Collection in HD! Something akin to the Bergman Set would be absolutely amazing.

Anyone know why the front page is updated so rarely? War & Peace from what I've read is no longer going to be a Region B and is still sitting there and there's been at least one batch of announcements since then with another 2 weeks away... Just curious.

To be fair it was only one month out of date, updated, thanks for the prompt

Anyone else having an issue with the Android app for the Criterion Channel? It stopped working for me on Sunday on my Oneplus 5T, it's not my account as I can still use the firestick app on my TV. It gives me a message about secure video not being supported by my device but it had worked previously. When I googled this error I found it has to do with DRM software and a previous issue with the phone but this seems to have been solved ages ago...

I also have OnePlus 5T and the app never let me play video. It's definitely a DRM thing in my case: it has Widevine L3 when the app is only supported by L1. I read that you can send your phone in to OnePlus and they'll upgrade it to L1 but I'm not gonna do that. At the same time casting from the same phone works flawlessly.

A post by GeordieW in the US forum has this link:

War & Peace at Zavvi

Is this going to happen after all ... or did Zavvi just not remove their original listing?

If you want to play blu ray's on your laptop, then download the iDeer Blu Ray Player. You do not have to worry about changing regions, nor will it affect your drive. However there are drawbacks. You cannot access the pop up menu nor the title menu. You literally have to pick which title you want to play from the simple menu the program gives. Also you cannot play other Region DVD's.

However why don't you get a standard Panasonic blu ray player? If you load a Criterion blu ray to the player and when the Region locked warning comes up, press stop on your players remote then press the Top Menu button and it should work. However this doesn't work for all Region locked blu rays's, nor does it work for other Region DVD's and it only works for Criterion blu-rays that have been manufacteured and released by the company from 2009 onwards (Barry Lyndon will certainly work) I have over 60 Criterion blu rays and titles such as The Third Man, Yojimbo, Sanjuro do not work using this method.

Hope this helps

Also doesn't work with at least some UK Panasonic UHD players.

Do you mind if I ask what Sony player you use? I’m quite tempted by this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-UBPX70...1-2-spons&th=1

I don’t collect 4K blu-rays just yet as they’re a little excessive in price but I may do eventually.
