I don't know any specific bad actors, but every once in a while there will be a voice in an anime that I think isn't fitting. One of the minor characters in FLCL, Manabe (one of Naota's classmates) is animated very expressively but the voice actor doesn't match that expressiveness whatsoever, whereas the actor in the English dub plays the character in a way with more emotion and it complements the animation well.

I still prefer to watch things subtitled simply because I want to watch things in their original language, but I can appreciate when dubs do things well (which, in my opinion, they do most of the time)

Kind of ironic, but Hideaki Anno, the creator of Evangelion can't act. I say this because he played the lead in Miyazaki's "The Wind Rises." I get it was intentional, but it was an unusual choice. Joseph Gordon Levitt, who played Jiro in the dub can act, but I guess he was told to mimic Anno's stilted delivery. That was one instance where the dub could have greatly outshined the Japanese, but it was a wasted opportunity.

Ok, I was curious. I was trying to write that in the least combative way.

Frankly I don't understand either side in this debate, being sub or dub only is too limiting to me, too many variables. Ultimately it's just a subjective thing, which is why the fighting never ends.

It's never the dub watchers. It's ALWAYS sub watchers dogwhistling to one another and high-fiving each other. Dub watchers are very tolerant of other viewpoints. They've had to be. Well, yeah. I don't see sub-watchers taking the bait very often, though. It's almost always dub-watchers feeling slighted because someone says that dubs suck.

This is where you lose a lot of people, myself included, completely. All I hear is terrible acting and murderously cringeworthy pronunciation of Japanese names. It's just awful. In addition to this, of course, is the fact that anglofication takes away from what anime is, to me. I don't want it to be just another "cartoon". Might as well be just another Korean-American crapshow like Avatar or whatever.

The ONLY time I deal with dubs is in videogames, and the days of dub-only games (Final Fantasy, Persona, etc.) are, happily, over.

There's just not enough money to go around for this to ever happen. Only the very biggest movies (such as those from Ghibli) feature the voices of actors that are known for "real" acting, and not just anime dubbing and a few other bad cartoons.

I thought Manabe was perfect. It's nuts because he's so visually expressive, while using a voice that may seem calm.

It was animated primarily at Dr Movie, JM, and MOI in South Korea. A lotta American productions use them.

People are allowed not to enjoy things and find them "crappy" even when popular consensus feels otherwise.

Personally I'm not a fan but it does have prettier animation than a lot of stuff on Nickelodeon then, and even now!
