Unhappy Transporting a 50" or 58" plasma in a ford escort

So I might be finding a killer deal soon... problem is that the transportation for the television is limited to either my Ford escort or my wife's Yaris.

I know I've read everywhere not to lay down the plasmas, but renting a truck for a 40+ mile drive would make the deal kind of not-so-much of a deal.

I don't want to ruin the TV so if I can't, I can't, but is it OK to put plasmas into tiny cars in a certain way?

Also (I know this is a strange Q) anyone know if a 50" or 58" can fit into the back of a Toyota Yaris hatchback w/ the seats down? It's pretty big, but I don't know exactly where to find the dimension on either the unit OR the car "trunk"!

Thanks if you can help.
