I'm not happy with what I have. I wanted to buy the Blu-ray, but Warner Home Video screwed it up so unfortunately the digital files are the best that's available and sadly it's probably going to stay that way forever. I've been wanting them to release this set for years, and to have the picture quality be inferior to low bitrate digital copies is extremely disappointing.

I never said I had a problem with you preferring your brightly coloured Blu-ray, I just responded to you telling me that I was missing out. Like I said, I'm not missing out on anything.

The audio on this is average. Not unlistenable by any means but not anything super spectacular. Though, it gets the job done. Would it be nice if WAC released this instead of WHV? Sure, but I'm not really sure some here were ever serious about buying this regardless of the price as much as there harping about the digital. JurassicBD summed it up:

But by all means to those saying I have the digital, so I'm not missing out don't complain when Warner takes that as an excuse not to give us anymore Scooby on BluRay. Or when companies don't bother to release animated cartoons on Blu.
Are you actually reading what people are posting? We don't expect it to look like Jonny Quest, we just don't want DNR. We're not basing this on nothing, the digital copies literally look better because they weren't tampered with. The poor quality has nothing to do with the budget and everything to do with Warner Home Video "restoring" the video.

If they're just going to apply DNR to the Blu-ray and make it inferior to the digital versions, I don't see any purpose in them releasing the Blu-rays. Blu-rays are meant to look better than digital files, not the other way around. I would happily pay full price for this if they hadn't DNR'd the crap out of it. The Blu-ray isn't even selling poorly, its #18 on the Blu-ray best seller list on Amazon. So why can't we complain about the crap quality? It's still selling, so you can't blame us if WHV doesn't release any more Scooby on Blu-ray.

Here are 1080p screenshots from the Amazon Video version of Seasons 1 and 2. This is what the original HD version looks like.

You've posted over and over before the reviews and screenshots were up talking about how you had no intention of keeping your pre-order. You don't enjoy it, super, but you're the only one beating this like a dead horse taking offense at everything.

Watched the first episode last night. I honestly can't tell if DNR was applied to this or not. Maybe the fact that this is an animated as opposed to live action series is throwing me off. Was this supposed to have grain? Sorry, I don't own a whole lot of classic animation on Blu-ray so my knowledge about these things is limited. All I know is that the PQ of the series on this Blu-ray (or at least the first episode I watched) looks about the same as I remember it from TV, complete with specs, dirt and other film-related (or animation-related) debris. I'm just glad to have this long-time favorite in HD. I never did pick up any of the DVD releases.

Yes, because I didn't want crappy packaging when I would prefer a nice regular case to go beside The New Scooby-Doo Movies. If this was the only set available I would've kept the pre-order, but we all know they're going to come out with a regular set. I was lucky in this case that I did cancel, because I'd have a hell of a time returning that set all the way from Australia!

Can you really justify paying $65 for four BD-25s in an oversized box you don't want? I couldn't, so I cancelled my pre-order. If I had to pay a higher price to get it later due to it selling out, I was fine taking that risk. Unfortunately now after seeing the screenshots, I won't be adding it to my collection at all.

Do you beat dead horses for a living? That sounds like an incredibly pointless thing to do Did you beat it while it was alive also? Or do you only beat the horse after it's dead? Funny the things some people do for entertainment!

But the listing data is four BD-50
Yes, the 31 episodes are on 4 BD25s, and consume a total space of around 88 GB out of the available 100 GB. A lazy and pathetic show of a release.

And, yes, the NEW SCOOBY-DOO movies looks *a lot* better than this mess, since they actually did use less DNR, but still extremely low bitrates of 10 - 11 mbps. With these season 1-3 episodes, all the grain is forever gone, and we have a low-frequency digital mess.

Pay no attention to some of the people on here. They are being big babies. The release is not perfect but looks pretty awesome compared to the old dvd releases. this is an old cheaply made cartoon it's not avatar or star wars where it needs to have a super high birthrate and amazing new audio. some of the changes they want wouldn't even make much of a difference. The reviewer even praised this release.

How was I "having a go at" anyone? I was being completely genuine in what I said, not trying to take a shot at anyone. It legitimately seems annoying and stressful to care so much about something so minor when it comes to enjoying films and series. The episodes look great to me. I'm not sitting there with my hands on each side of my screen, inspecting for each and every flaw.

Can someone please post two screenshots of the same scene - on from the BD and one from Amazon video, in the same size - so that we can get a direct comparison of the PQ?

Please post the BD-Info that shows these are BD-25 discs. How many GB per disc?

Exactly. As long as the PQ and AQ is good and I have subtitles, I’m happy. It’s a 50 year old cartoon that was made on a budget, there’s only so much that can be done with it.

Review over at The Digital Bits for anyone interested.

Scooby-Doo: Where Are You? – The Complete Series (Limited Edition 50th Anniversary Mystery Mansion Boxset) (Blu-ray Review)
Quote:
A portion of the above review...
"That said, Scooby-Doo: Where Are You? makes the leap to high definition looking quite good, great even. Presented full frame to preserve its original aspect ratio, it’s now much clearer and sharper, while still carrying those inherent aforementioned visual flaws. The color palette is often bold, particularly the clothing on the main characters, but also on many foreground and background items. It’s also wonderfully-textured with surprising depth as every last bit of detail has been left intact. Character edges are also solid without the need for artificial sharpening. Noise is prevalent from time to time, including what some might describe as “mosquito noise,” but it appears natural to the material. It’s also worth mentioning that despite a low encode, which hovers around 10.0 to 11.0 Mbps for the majority of each episode, no obvious compression artifacts could be spotted either. To be succinct, the show has never looked better."
And to each his own, but I'll rely on the impressions of this provided by those who have seen it in motion. I won't be watching this a still frame at a time.

Agreed.

I could die and go to heaven if Zombie Island got a Blu-ray release. It is one of the last big releases that I'm waiting on to hit Blu-ray. WB can name the price and I would pay it.

Got my order in yesterday and it predictably arrived in an oversized bubble envelope and was also predictably damaged with the plastic case cracked on top.

I contacted Amazon and they're sending a replacement and told me to keep the damaged item.

For what it's worth, looking at the comparison photos above, I actually agree that the DNR was way, way overdone. They scrubbed all the texture away. That really stinks. I'll never figure out how the end results from the same studio can vary so broadly. They didn't DNR all the texture away from Batman TAS, why do it to Scooby Doo?

It is what it is. Maybe if I put the DVD in at the same time as the Blu-ray, I can get the texture of the DVD and the resolution and color of the Blu-ray. It works that way, right?

Where do you keep pulling the BD-25 nonsense from? When the review has it as 4 BD-50s unless you believe the reviewer is lying. Is the set perfect, I don't think I was claiming that as I said if would've better had WAC been able to work on it, but its not unwatchable and you feel this need to get snobbish with those who are happy with the BluRay by responding that you need to buy the digital copy or coming off as condescending to those who did buy the set.
