It's kinda hard to find but a few stores carry it, including Sunrise.

Agreed. At least the recently released BD (via DMC) is pretty solid.

Have been curious also.

I used to go to her site weekly hoping for something new, perhaps an update of another label re-issuing her albums etc but it has been dormant. :-(

Reading about all the deleted scenes, Wendy mentioned there was a big scene of Jack finding arrows made from objects in the ballroom, leading him down a hallway.

I want to see this!

Wow, just rewatched this in DV using the Panny 820, and it was even better the 2nd time around. The image almost feels 3d at times. To me, these catalog releases of classic flicks are the best part of the HDR era.

Yeah, quite a few titles out there I fear we may not get anytime soon or at all. Like Aliens. We have the first one so let’s get the second one, please! Lots of others of course. I feel like there are to many bad films getting the 4K treatment but I guess that’s subjective, right?

watched last night, great transfer,,,,

I just hope we get at some point the Euro cut,

the US version drags for me with really nothing interesting
worth adding to the experience, with the euro cut the tension is non-stop for me.

I recognize we live in a kumbaya age where we have to respect everyone's opinion but this one literally makes me want to punch a hole in the nearest wall.

The longer cut is enthrallingly tense. I wouldn't cut a single second. Watching again the other day further drove home how I felt about the shorter cut the first time around; it's over a little too soon.

I’ve had the shorter cut for a few years because I own the UK Kubrick set and I’ve always thought about watching it. I can never bring myself to do it, though. I can’t imagine the film without those scenes. Especially “Danny’s not here, Mrs. Torrance”.

Before watching this 4K, the last time I had seen The Shining was when I was 16 or so. I remember finding it long and rather dull. Since then, my taste in movies (and everything, just about) had changed dramatically. Nonetheless, I totally understood what people meant when they said they preferred the shorter European cut, despite never having seen it.

After watching the 4K, not only do I not understand why I found the movie slow the first time around, but I have no idea how much of anything could be cut - the movie is just plain great all the way through.

If you're now 17, that doesn't mean much.

I didn't get to see the US cut until i was 33, but I already had the opinion that the Euro cut went by too quickly and felt severely truncated. I was aware of the US cut's existence for a long time before that, but didn't have an easy way to obtain it until I got the Australian BD. Now I can't imagine ever watching the Euro cut again, it feels like a TV edit.

To be fair, when i first watched the shining back when i was like 15-16 I found it rather dull as well. Fast forward 20+ years later, and i find it utterly brilliant and captivating.

Well, shit. I've gone to bat for the Euro cut many many times but upon watching the UHD (which is glorious) I found myself enjoying the movie like never before. I still think it's a fraction too long but the sense of atmosphere and dread that it creates is palpable, and when I went back to check some stuff out in the Euro version I was like 'wait, what? They cut out Halloran's introduction entirely?!?'. Even the skellingtons didn't bother me.

Strange thing was that the US cut didn't actually feel like I was watching an unfamiliar version of the film. I don't watch this movie religiously and I've always tried to maintain a copy of the US cut (had the US LaserDisc years ago, then I bought the US DVD, then most recently the HMV UK Blu-ray with the US cut) so I guess it's just seeped into my brain over the years. In a way, all the longer scenes of mundane domesticity make the scarier moments that bit more scary when they eventually come along. That'll do Kubrick, that'll do.
