Hey, you’re so cool, Brewster, but I guess sometimes some of us have to stand by our convictions even if it means we don’t get invited to your rad party.

Okay fine you're right it's false advertising and Shout is wrong to have advertised a 4k remaster leading to confusion for one person buying it thinking they were getting a UHD. Can we move on now?

So I always thought the original Blu-ray of the Omen looked simply amazing. How much of an improvement is the picture quality on this release?

You've already contributed your thoughts on this release. Members have tried to explain the whole 4k remaster/not 4k UHD to the best of their capability. But, you further to engage in argument, and maybe self righteousness. I don't know why the bickering still continues. At this point, it most certainly does comes off as trolling. If this release offends you this much then, don't purchase it. Don't visit this thread. Time to move on. I'm not trying to be mean. I'm not looking to argue either. But, this thread today has been sidetracked all day, when it shouldn't have gone on this long. You've been a member on this sight long enough, that you should know when not to take things personally, and when to walk away. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Take it or leave it.

Have a great night!

I admit I was a bit worried when I recently sold my BD from the new The Shining UHD release after describing it as a '4K remaster' on eBay without specifying that it wasn't an actual UHD. But that's only because I realized a complete idiot with zero reading comprehension skills or familiarity with the formats might have bought it.

I think it's a moderate improvement. It would be even better if it was in 4K but, even at 1080p, there's some nice additional detail evident to my eyes. I think the original Blu-ray looks quite nice as well.

Shout has done a nice job with this package and Fox has done a nice transfer for the original film. The others are recycled transfers as far as I can tell. Some nice new extras.

The reviewer back in 2008 gave the initial release a 4/5. Good for it's time, and a decent disc but, still not without it's problems.

This new 4k remaster solves any and all of the problems of the previous release. I would rate it a 4.75/5. Buy with confidence, if you don't mind the other films in the set, not getting the same treatment.

You've been going off your head on about half a dozen threads today. If you're dealing with some issues, you're probably better off just taking a step back to cool off.

I’m sure at some point we will get a true 4K release of at least the original Omen film.

Fox is now owned by Disney. They don't care about their own films except for new releases so a UHD for The Omen seems about as likely as The Abyss being released tomorrow

I saw the original OMEN first run when it opened in 1976. I was a teenager and not very impressed. When the sequel was filming I was working as a journalist and covered some of the shooting in Chicago and got to meet Holden who is a long time favorite. However, I also didn't care for the sequel when I saw it, also first run upon release. The third one I caught on cable a few years ago and didn't like that one at all. The TV movie from the 90's and the recent remake didn't interest me.

However, I have to say, that reading this thread off and on this past week (and notwithstanding the circus it's become the last day or so due to he who shall not be named), I feel inspired to reassess the first three films. One of my favorite and for me the most fun things about online forums are getting caught up in other people's enthusiasm and feeling the palpable and often infectious excitement over a certain title. I'm happy for those who are eager to pick up this new Deluxe Edition, but it's too much for me so yesterday I bought the UK Blu of the Trilogy, which my buddy The Great Owl assured me looks good. I'll be very curious to see if I like the films anymore than when I was first exposed to them as a cranky, cynical, know-it-all teenager. One thing I've learned since those days is that life can sometimes get awfully dull without second chances.

I agree with you that the third film is weak. It has almost no creative deaths, probably only two with the ambassador and burning priest at the studio. In the other films those who know the truth get killed off but in this film they were practically left alone. Damien knew Father De Carlo and his followers are trying to stop him yet he does nothing until they literally approach him to try to kill him. Even then the deaths are so unoriginal, falling off a horse into the river and get attacked by a pack of dogs. According to the interview on Omen 4 disc Harvey Bernard didn’t like Omen 3 so it’s baffling why he approved the script and the direction the film took.

I like the other 3 Omen films, even the fourth one because they maintain the horror aspect but The Final Conflict just seems to depart from the other entries.

That stinks. Maybe after Bob Igor steps down his successor would be more interested in getting the classic films from the Fox catalog onto UHD.

Unhappy

I rarely get damaged items from Amazon, but this came in a big envelope w/ two Steelbooks. The outer box is in pretty bad shape. Will put in for a replacement.

My set arrived in great condition from Target yesterday and I can't wait to dive into everything. Will probably have to start tomorrow night. Fun fact...I've never seen the sequels only the original and the remake. However, $50 shipped is not bad IMO for 6 films!

I know there is a lot of negative reactions to the sequels, but did anyone catch the TV show Damien from a few years ago? I could not get into at all no matter how hard I tried. Do the sequels at least have some redeeming horror aspects to make up for other lacking aspects? Either way, I'll be watching all the films. Especially to see Sam Neill in action.

Received my set on Tuesday. Also from Target. Was shipped in a box with bubble pillows, and arrived undamaged.

The first film is definitely the best of the bunch by far. I've seen all the others, except the tv movie. Will be getting to that one though.

I watched the second film last night. Not great but, it has it's moments. I did find it more enjoyable this time around, since my last viewing, which was probably last year. There are a few good frightful moments. The best one being the elevator scene. Look out for a young Lance Henriksen.

I don't remember much about the third movie at this time. Haven't seen that one since last year too. Will be watching it tonight though, and hoping to like it more than my previous viewing as well. Does have Sam Neil in it, like you said so, that's a plus.

Again, I haven't seen the tv version so, that will be a first for me, and i'll be viewing it with an open mind.

The remake. Oh boy! I would probably put it below the sequels that I have seen. I enjoy certain aspects of it but, it just doesn't do it for me, like the original does. I'll still watch it again soon though. I've probably seen it at least two to three other times. So, either I do like it to some degree, or i'm just a glutton for punishment. Maybe i'll have a better appreciation for it this time. We'll see.

Overall, i'm having a great time watching these, and going through the special features. Especially the new interviews. The slip box itself I absolutely love. The artwork is gorgeous.

Anyway, enjoy your set.
