Interesting...looks like BFI are going to start releasing most of their titles in Scanavo packaging from now on (starting with Yentl):
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Seems only Cosh Boy won't be in this format, probably because it's Flipside and there would be a minor uproar if they did that. What does everyone think? Is this a good move? Would seem they want to sit on the shelf alongside Criterion and Indicator titles, and show off the artwork a bit more (though I would say they could do better on that front...not a huge fan of most of these designs other than Bait). |

BFI never were one for consistency to be fair, they've released stuff in clear cases, blue cases, thin blue cases, the odd slipcover here and there. Scavano was the next logical step! I much prefer them so this is a nice surprise.

Wondering if this will mean: 1) Slightly larger booklets. 2) BBFC free reversible artwork as standard rather than a very occasional nice surprise. |

Got to disagree. The white writing of "BBFC" actually makes the backgrounds seem paler and therefore stands out less. Solid blocks of mostly bright colours stand out much more imo.

Does anyone know if BFI (or any other label) is going to upgrade The Goddess, The Spring River Flows East and Spring in a Small Town to Blu-ray at some point? And is there any plan to release more Republican-era Chinese films? I am thinking of titles such as the following:
Daybreak (Sun Yu) The Big Road (Sun Yu) Scenes of City Life (Yuan Muzhi) Crows and Sparrows (Zheng Junli) |
