Other than The Boy Who Turned Yellow from Indicator, and the four "Saturday Morning Pictures" collections from Network, I'm not sure anyone else has released any. (Not counting all the BFI releases, obviously)

The following have been released on DVD in Germany:-

Valley of the Kings, Five on a Treasure Island, Five Clues to Fortune, Beware of the Dog, The Carringford School, The Young Jacobites and Secret in the Mine.

All have English audio with non-removable German subs.

Fantastic news! i love all these CFF releases that they've been putting out.
When I used to go to Saturday Morning Pictures (as we used to call it), the second half of the fifties & early sixties, I loved the serials. I liked the American ones best (Phantom Empire, King Of The Rocket Men, Flash Gordon ect.), but I also liked the CFF. There's only two I can remember now, Go Kart Go, & my favourite, Five Clues to Fortune, with a very young David Hemmings, I don't think that one's been released yet.

BFI released that Famous Five serial on DVD so you won't have to worry about non-removable subs.

To be fair it does state "Other extras TBC"

I would be surprised if their edition doesn't outshine the Twilight Time version in the on disc extras department, even if it's only by the inclusion some broadly related by subject matter shorts from their archives.

^^
The only reason i bought Town On Trial was for the CFF film Adventure In The Hopfields & it was money well spent!

In addition to the above :

On the Network Volumes the extras include Eight adventures of The Magnificent 6 1/2 spread across the four volumes.

Hence I've kept hold of the Network DVDs all this time.

I loved it. A lovely lyrical yet realist portrait of rural life over a number of generations. I'm struggling to describe it so I'll nick the last line of bottled spider's brief write up on Criterion Forum:

Quote:
The rich interweaving of past and present, dialogue, voice-over, and the beautiful score make a kind of musical composition. The film emphasizes the harsh life of the previous generations, but the overall mood is highly lyrical.
Recommended.

Due to the circumstances of it's making and events post-release Akenfield really should have been part of the BFI's Flipside Collection but I guess for a couple of reasons it wasn't included, they being there already turned out to be four other Flipside releases scheduled for Q3 and Q4 that year and the BFI probably wanting to tie it in with their other two easier sell british rural life titles of that year: A Month In the Country (Colin Firth's finest hour?) and the more difficult yet ultimately rewarding On the Black Hill.

Fascinating film. I loved it. A Flipside release in all but name. The closest I’ve seen is Requiem for a Village, but Akenfield is quite unique in its own right.

Probably will end up getting Beat The Devil since the pricing will probably be more affordable than the TT version.
