Default Why should we choose?

Personally I think it is all a marketing ploy to get us the consumer to buy a Blu-ray player. I could care less about high def stuff. Frankly neither could my 4 year old. What does it matter if dora the explorer comes in high def or not? Why can't the movies be placed on both like they did with VHS tapes and DVD's. This way the transition is made easier and the people who can't afford to buy a blu-ray player right now are not left out in the cold and not able to see a movie that they would like to see just because there is a Marketing war going on between Blu-ray and DVD's. Not everyone can afford to pay 500 bucks for something that is non-essential.

Thanks.
