Just ignore them. It’s impossible to please everyone.
Also to quote Spock: The needs(wants) of the many, outweigh the needs(wants) of the few.
I’ve blind bought quite a few Kino titles based on the awesome artwork/descriptions and enjoyed them all.

You should see everyone complaining about Scream Factory's cover for April Fools Day. I think the new art is much better than the original poster but you can't please everyone no matter how hard you try.

Kino Lorber is releasing 21 titles on blu-ray this month. Even if they hired a dedicated cover designer, that person would have to create a new cover for 21 blu-rays in one month. Kino uses the vintage posters for a reason.

Would love to see them release to you one or more of their 1950's 3D titles. They spend way too much money restoring them themselves when the 3D Film Archive could do it for pennies on the dollars.

This is a beautiful cover. Uncluttered, with no incongruous Microsoft ClipArt 2003 font rearing its ugly head.

I've been waiting for this release for a long time. Pre-ordered.

Most Kino covers are absolutely great. Original cover art tends to trump fussy new designs. That Leone collection just looks amateurish, but it's an outlier.

Regarding the cover art debate, I do have to raise the point that we are buying the product for the content on the disc inside, which is far bigger than the cover. Add to that the fact that most of us shelve our discs in their cases so that only the spine shows.

With apologies to KL's graphic artist, I'm surprised no one has brought this point up. Please don't lose sight of what is important.

Oh boy.
Nobody, I believe, is discounting the actual disc contents in lieu of artwork.
I, for one, look at the entire package: movie, bonus content, packaging, goodies included. If I like the artwork I’m not ignoring the disc. That will always occupy a larger slice of the decision making pie.
My car will get from point A to B without: paint. power windows, floor mats, etc...but I like to take those things into consideration when buying one.

Never understood why, of all places a home media message board, folks feel the need to disparage someone for buying physical media under different circumstances than they buy physical media.
I couldn’t possibly care less why someone buys physical media, as long as they DO buy it and support the format. All fans win this way.

And why is everyone complaining about that Sergio Leone set anyway? It's a bundle of titles most, if not all, of us already have in other sets or as individual releases. How many people complaining about it here are actually going to buy it?

If you're going to respond, quote my entire post.

Regardless of what the cover art looks like, would those complaining about it be buying it anyway?

Mr. Humbert, the one who made the comment about Kino hiring a graphic designer, already owns all of these films individually, and I would suggest that anyone who is even remotely interested in these movies by this point already does as well.

So it's just being douchey for the sake of it by people who wouldn't be paying money to buy it anyway.

Actually I’d be willing to bet that packaging enthusiasts are more apt to buy releases on Day1, vs the give me a barebones disc crowd that more than likely opts to wait for a sale.
Now if everyone here is supposedly all about supporting the format, which crowd is doing the heavy lifting for the benefit of the masses?
Obviously no way to prove this, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

The bottom line is this: if you buy, we all win.

Why do folks get so hung up on the why?

While obviously not as important as the a/v presentation, having the 'vintage poster art' is definitely a great bonus and kind of finalizes the release. Seeing the older cover arts for some films can also be a tipping point to purchase since they bring back the nostalgia of the video store days.
