My apology if it’s been answered before, what’s your display? Has it been calibrated? Because I know most TVs with the exception of Panasonic 2019 models tend to crush blacks so the artifacts tens to be hidden.

Come to Illinois and calibrate my 2 TVs; the only option here is the Best Buy Geek Squad and I wouldn't let them calibrate my toaster.

Some Geek Squad guys are actually good. I occasionally be hired by BB to do calibration when they have a backlog. I don't know how it's sustainable because I charge them higher than what they charge the customer.

Alita Battle Angel. 4K disc.

Opening scene: bitrates as they appear:

8.4, 10.7, 15.8, 14.3, 12, 7 (Fox opening.) Now title card (0.3 mbps, no seriously), then the first scene: where Waltz finds the hand. 18, 20, 21, 19, 17, 18, 15, 20, 22, 26, 27, 17, 21, 23, 24.

I stopped viewing this at 2 minutes in and the highest it went was 27 mbps. Still higher than Netflix would usually be, 15 mbps.

My display is an OLED C8 and a Samsung Dynamic Crystal colour set. Both 55 inch.

Better to take a loss than to lose a good customer in such instances.

I'll watch that tonight and keep the info displayed via my Oppo 203 for the first 2 minutes. I don't watch movies during the daytime.

I'm just glad that you didn't pick It's A Wonderful Life; I'm not in the mood. I haven't seen Burrito Battle Angel, so at least I get to see something new although I would prefer to watch it in 3D. The sacrificies I make in the interest of science!

Despicable Me. From start, Universal title card: 22, 33, 19, 17, 13, 11, 7, 5.

Opening scene: Universal presents title card (0.5 mbps.)

Actual scene: 5.8, 10, 11, 12, 9, 19, 12, 26, 15, 17, 29, 21, 18, 32, 9.

The highest it went to is 32 up until 2 minutes 30.

Sorry guys but (at least on these two discs) I'm not seeing 65 - 75 mbps.

If you can tell me which discs it reaches these heights, I'll check one out. Of course this shows that disc is still better than streaming but the lows are still very low.

Hopefully someone here has Netflix. If so, please check out season 3, episode 10 (the start of the episode) and you will see that lowlight scene... with the tent, what's wrong with it? It looks fine to me, and Kim's face after the credits is very detailed and it doesn't look like there's a huge drop in quality, if at all. The back and white sequence at the opening of the pilot looks great. Maybe it's just me, but it still looks excellent.
In case you didn't see this.

Stream it now and do the same comparison if your TV, or whatever device you use to stream, will give you that information. Then do it with your left eye covered, then your right, and then while standing on your head. The more data we have the more likely we are to get a federally funded research grant.

LOL I was taking you seriously when I started reading that! Sadly I can't stream the film unless it's on Netflix as I don't own it digitally. Plus it only shows you one static reading on Netflix.

You could stream the pilot, does the b/w scene (at the beginning) look good to you?

Daytime viewing rules apply to TV shows also. It was my plan to watch my blu-rays of this besides. I think testing Alita tonight is more than enough homework for one evening; I'm not coming out of retirement nor am I being blinded by ...

While highly analytical, the lack of hard data will prevent you from getting a federally funded research grant.

True story, sometime back I went thru a brushless car wash and it was out of soap so did nothing for the dirty vehicle. I went to the attendant, explained the process and asked for a refund of my money. The attendant said, “no one else has complained and I was being overly picky.”
