Ok yes the grain is a bit too managed in some shots but for the most part, the transfers are top notch.

The previous transfers are way too jacked up. Really digital looking.

Not only that but they're more processed as well.

Whatever grain is still on those scans is a mushy, soupy mess. Not to mention the ugly sharpening as well.

To each their own I guess.
Perhaps you should look closer. They are slathered in DNR and look much more digital than the 2011 Blu-ray's. They're too smooth.

As long as the colors were corrected (Leia's face isn't red, blaster flashes aren't hot pink), and they were, I'm good. Those 2011 versions were unwatchable to me. Especially after seeing the despecialized versions.

Carrie Fisher was wearing rouge, especially in ANH. Blasters weren't pink on my plasma. Sometimes, in ESB, the lightsabers can look slightly off, but it's not a huge deal for me.

You think it'll still be stocked until then?

CB, wondered if you could weigh in on the 4k caps here...which are probably taken from streaming versions. In terms of color (SDR here), contrast, do they reflect the new 1080ps?

I expect there will be compression issues not present on a disc source--the hosting site's probably applying a significant amount of its own--but I'm also curious whether the weird way detail seems to get rolled off in some shots resembles the DNR scrubbing you mention re the remastered HDs.

Curious to hear your take (4K caps for OT films at top of page):

Sorry I just can't see it. What I see is much more filmic presentation (those heavily grain managed shots being the exception).

Also, while I know there may be compression issues not present on a disc source--and the hosting site's probably applying a significant amount of its own--I did have the feeling detail was getting rolled off in a weird way, especially in some action shots of OT films.

Yeah, those are what the 1080p Disney Blu-ray's look like.

Look at the Jabba puppet, for instance. The 4K stream looks pretty identical to what the Disney Blu-ray looks like. Look at how soft and smeary Jabba looks. Detail is lost. The 2011 Blu-ray has more detail.

The compression is really poor in those screenshots and there's HDR conversion issues.

I wouldn't use those as reference.

These two images illustrate a paradox.

The 1080P grain implies more definition and detail, but even though the 4K is cleaner, it has more detail.

Look at Jabba's tail and the metal engravings under the fish bowl. The 4K has more definition.

Plus, the 1080P pink hue is unacceptable IMO.

Well, it does have twice the resolution, so some detail is going to work its way in, despite all of the DNR. With that said though, it's not a night and day difference.

It doesn't look pink on my plasma and in motion, I feel like the 2011 discs are more stable.

The grading is completely messed up on the old transfers.

ANH and ROTJ have a really strong magenta push whilst ESB is far too blue.

Lucas tasked Lowry with giving them new colour palettes when they did those transfers and they did a terrible job.

The new transfers are a lot closer to how they looked originally.

I can't speak for your plasma, but I've seen the 2011 blu-rays on different TVs. I noticed the pink from day one.

It's really just baffling to me how dark the 4k's are. Just the first few minutes of the Phantom Menace showcases how huge of a difference it is. Watch the blu-ray and hey.....there's actually light in the room that Obi/Qui are brought into. Watch the 4k and it's as if it's a mood lighting room to take someone out to a romantic dinner. And it just seems to be constant throughout all 9 movies.

The longer you wait for a price drop, the less valuable the digital codes will be for resale.

If you buy it now, you might get $90 for the codes, making the net cost of the set $160.

Two months from now you might be lucky to get $60.

...that’s been my experience.

I caved in and bought the Target exclusive release of TROS yesterday. After looking at the book and getting the extra DVD I'd say it's worth it.

You’d probably get half that three months from now.

My understanding was that eBay doesn't allow that. I tried it to do it twice a few years ago and they pulled the listing each time.

eBay have rules against that kind of thing now. On this here site, add the digital movies to your collection. Then, go into your collection, select them, click on the little cog icon and move them to "Want to sell". Then you can set your price and members perusing the site will be able to message you.
