I am not aware of the technical details but surely it must be budget related.

I am sure a lot of older films have been revisited with revised grading and they now look much better than they were theatrically projected.

Yes, but the "degraded" picture is probably on the final negative - complete with early lower resolution CGI elements and such.

Oh, it doesn't worry me one bit. It's the theme of the movie that counts.

III may have a "bleached" look but it can still look a lot better.

The UHD has an ancient transfer that's been DNR'ed. Simple as that.

People can say what they will about the 2013 3D transfer but it is by far the most consistent in terms of quality if not just faithful nor perfect. That's not even considering that Spielberg was involved in the process, which definitely helps (and keep in mind this was intended for 3D viewing so I highly doubt the warmer grading is supposed to be THAT warm for 2D).

2018's UHD is better than 2011 by miles but still not quite there. While DNR is definitely applied, I do appreciate its lesser extent than 2013's version. But the still, inconsistent color tones happens here and there throughout the film. But the biggest gripe is probably at 19:15, the whole picture seems to deteriorate then goes back to normal.

Man, I don't think Jurassic Park will EVER get what it deserves in terms of the definitive restoration.

I remember that, seems like a problem with the negative there as it doesn't look like a dupe but it definitely goes a bit squinky. The optical overlays for the location titles look like ass too, the Universal of 2020 would probably rebuild those.

The worst moment in the UHD's transfer is when Dodgson arrives to meet Nedry imo.

DNR and EE central.

Yes...because it's an optical for the location overlay, so they've battered it with DNR.

Imagine if present day Uni had done the UHD's for 1-3...

Imagine...

I really hope they redo them when Dominion comes out.

I noticed that there are 3 different collections. Do all of them have the same video quality?

I can’t believe they still haven’t released these individually in the U.S. I just want Jurassic Park, and The Lost World. Don’t really care about the others.

Buy the set, sell what you don't want.

I got the set for a friggin $19.99 for the first 4 movies... this price will most likely exist again. That's 10 bucks for the two movies you like.....

That’s not bad. Yeah I’d jump on that if it ever happens again.

Is the bluray that comes with the 4k worthy? I noticed it has a near perfect score on here, is it better to own/watch until we get a great 4k?

What’s an optical color grade? what is different about it compared to other forms of analog color grading?
