If there's no video at all, then it sounds like an HDMI output problem and nothing to do with the optical system. Are you saying that even attempting to show the player menus/onscreen display doesn't work?

The Criterion “C” loads and the accompanying drop down menu appears after a while. Audio comes in and out, stuttering. Screen is otherwise black. No video at all.
