I mean unless Pink Floyd the Wall is offered suddenly in 4K type of thing. (It’s stuck in SD for now.)

Even then, .... I would know the disc is coming and there’s plenty to do while I wait.

I would spend 3.99 if my kids really wanted to rent something. That’s my limit.
Normally I wouldn't pay $20 either. But those guys, especially Alex Winter, were trying to get that movie made for 20 years or more. I have no problem supporting hard work and labors of love, especially for guys as awesome as Alex and Keanu. I wish I were independently wealthy so I could rent it multiple times. But they will definitely get a disc purchase from me as well.

For $24.99 you could have just purchased the 4K digital copy at Vudu, likely elsewhere, too. Maybe that wasn't the case when you rented it, but when the price difference between a rental and a purchase are this close, I would choose the purchase myself and buy the disc when available. You could then sell or gift the digital code that came with the disc.

China wise, it’s the controversy over the title that has made it a flop. China are seeing big numbers for other releases.
The difficulty with making a western studio movie for China is that they criticize it not being authentic on small details such as the Chinese audience it was tested within a scene where she was kissed was not appropriate. Anything like seeing a fortune cookie would be immediately be considered not really Chinese. Add to the insult, it’s English dubbed to Chinese.

The film during it first weekend in China reached #1 position with 23 million, tenet was 29.8 million last week when it opened. The HK and Taiwan activists protesting the film caused them to censor news. Their theaters are still 50% capacity, so both tenet and mulan take should be watched over several weeks to see how they do. As usual some expecting a true Chinese adaptation didn’t like it, others were entertained. But the activists did successfully create some negativity so the film lacked the same attraction as tenet.

I should order the original movie. I’ve never seen it and my neighbor really wants to see it.

This is probably the one to get:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Bill-...lu-ray/155603/

It includes the original and the sequel Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.

Yes, it was available. But there's a fine line between supporting an artist and supporting EST. The way I see it I would have spent the $20 at the theater anyway. No reason to purchase a digital copy when I'll more than likely get a code with the Blu-ray anyway.

Yep, that's the version I have. It comes with a third disc of some good bonus material as well.

I was reading about support for apps on certain TVs running out today. Question for Alchav, what you gonna do if a much used app loses support after 3 years?

Any examples?

I haven't found WebOS not ever updating apps all the time. Samsung's Tizen I seen a weather app stop support but none of the streaming. Anything android would be fairly mainstream. Roku TV that a interesting because they use that rather then develop their own.

BTW this is exactly why I consider the Apple TV 4K more sustainable then any other TV OS or set-top-box because it supports all the streaming hosts, only hitch at the moment is Google not updating their Youtube to 4K which is supported now. It is also using a OS that frequently gets updated to add functionality/features.

So even if your TV ceased to provide updates you could could use that, or if you want a less updated environment you go cheaper with Roku, FireTV or Chromecast. But not all apps are supported in those.

PS I know you were testing him, but that really not a Achilles heel for that scenario.

Whether you pay for a PVOD rental or an EST purchase, you are supporting digital distribution, so I do not see any distinction there. Any type of expenditure on this movie will support the artists.

Had you bought the digital copy you could watch the movie as much as you wanted until the disc is released all for just an extra $5. That extra $5 supports the artists slightly more than does one PVOD rental. If you instead wanted to recoup that extra $5 after you buy the disc, you could sell the code right here on blu-ray.com, despite the terms of service governing such codes, or make a gift of it to a friend or family member.

As you were not really going to rent this movie multiple times at $20 each, I am not including that as a possibility.

If that were to happen, they can just buy a dedicated streaming device and these range from very affordable to moderately priced depending upon what functionality is desired.

Examples of apps being discontinued are plenty in older disc players and roku.

As a projector user the ATV4K is an elegant way to access everything aside from Discs which is my main way to go.

It can also simplify remote setup because it’s so versatile.

I think they are great. I don’t use mine as much as I used to but I think they are miles ahead of roku and most tv built in apps.

Of course if the built in stuff works that can simplify the remote setup too.

I see your point but it wasn't that important for me to watch it multiple times before the disc comes out. Plus rental numbers are separate from sales numbers, so my money would have shown up in sales stats as opposed to rental stats. That may seem crazy to some but it's just the way I feel.

Well they are Android Apps, and Sony is good with their updates. Vudu sometimes lags on their updates, but if I contact them they listen and update. So I haven't had a problem, but if a Provider doesn't update then they are not serving their customers. I'm sure that is not going to happen if they want to keep their customers.

It’s just that many people keep their TVs for 7-10 years and older TVs (2015-2016) are losing support for certain key apps. It was Samsung I was reading about but I hear it happens with L.G too.

Some TVs older than 4 years have lost Netflix apparently?

First Samsung TV using their current OS Tizen was 2015, so 2010, 2011 TV's would be not viable to maintain support from Netflix developer perspective. The SoC environment is ancient (slow).

The Roku's appear to be similar about 2009 - 2010 models, same situation.

Hey motivation to upgrade!

Motivation to upgrade is fine after 7/10 years. Not for a 2016 set though, that’s taking the water.
