From what I understand it's basically just a general statement of what the company/brand approves of, to prevent fan works that fall outside of that from reflecting negatively on them. It's kind of just covering their ass/a statement of principles.
They've also clarified that they're not trying to actively police or censor fan works. Apparently it's not really uncommon for Japanese studios/franchises to release statements like this; this one seems to have just gotten an unusual amount of attention outside of Japan, with people who are less familiar with the practice. |

According to Selecta Vision, Khara will be directly supervising the international BD releases of Evangelion.

I'm not sure if that's good or bad news. This could potentially prevent distributors from putting out low quality releases, but on the other hand Khara could be very strict about the video materials (e.g. no color correction, no better upscale of episode #16 with domesday duplicator).

For the scene, or in general?
In general, it's a bit of both, but really neither, as, while the intention is the same in both, it is the diction that differs most, and I find that to be the biggest issue. The ADV subtitles tend to be more "localized," while Khara's translation for Netflix is far too literal, so a blend of both is ideal. |

This news is unfortunately unclear. Khara is anyway supervising the release around the world as they are the licensor and they care about NGE, so they will thoroughly control everything.
It's not stated up to what extent khara is involved in the release. If they are taking care of everything, then MediaOCD would not be working on authoring the discs for GKIDS/AL. I see two candidates expalantion: -Khara is indeed providing the same assets (packaging) to every distributor, who may then do some slight adjustements. Distributors are also provided with the compressed, ready for authoring, video assets (it would explain why an US company is authoring NGE discs at the moment). -This statement is only related to continental Europe, where Dynit, Dybex, Selecta (and whoever is the licensee in Germany?) are working together to provide the best possible edition in smaller markets video & packaging-wise. It was assumed during the original run that this was a typical Japanese English mistake but it’s intentional because of the mystery surrounding the First Children. I was very confused when I watched it in real time week by week back then (I thought there were a group of kids) and was a neat twist. I understand why it was changed for English audiences but do prefer this.

Netflix still hasn't fixed the following line:
"Listen carefully, Shinji. Like Adam, we humans come from the source of life called Lilith." The English dub was correct since the very beginning, though, saying: "Listen carefully to what I'm about to say next, Shinji. We humans came from a source of life called Lilith, which is also like Adam." For comparison, the Manga dub and subtitles (which spawned the misconception that Adam came from Lilith in the first place) said: "You see, Shinji, mankind was spawned from a being called Lilith, just like Adam was." |
