Is it a huge deal? For audiophiles probably not. For the average consumer you bet it is. Why in the hell would Denon (or Dolby) make it more difficult than it has to be to even find the setting, let alone shut it off? It just doesn't make sense, and like it or not, this is a complete non-issue with DTS. |

Don't the Denons remember the DRC setting? A few discs might be set to default to ON, but with the Onkyos TrueHD sends it to AUTO and then most discs are set to use the LOW setting. Again this is more of a hardware implementation issue. It is up to the AVR makers to properly implement DRC setting to remember the user preference. |

Prime the carburetor Retard the spark Open the choke Turn the crank Advance the spark Close the choke Set the throttle Now you can sit in your living room and start your car, so it's nice and toasty on those chilly mornings. With heated seats. Or the air conditioning has cooled it down, if it's hot outside. Work-arounds are directly connected to "f**kups", a term I used earlier. Fun is the ultimate purpose of breathing. |

7.1 soundtracks are downmixed to 5.1. 5.1 soundtracks are output as 7.1, where you can't listen to the mix as intended or use a better matrix processor such as PLIIx or Logic7 instead of the lame channel duplication that DTS mandates. I am perplexed why so many ardent DTS proponents seemingly ignore these DTS zits while lambasting Dolby's shortcomings. |

The voices...in my head...remember the voices... Actually, I leave my receiver in "Auto-Surround" mode, which detects PCM signals and applies PLIIx to anything not already set to run 7.1. If it's PCM 7.1, it runs in Pure Direct mode - straight PCM. I only do this for my wife, who picked out the Mythos Eights I use for rear surrounds, and who likes getting her money's worth. |

Except, of course, when the DTS decoder fails to output the 7.1 that was on the disc.

As far as dts throwing channels away, it is the equivalent of building a V8 with a distributor cap designed for a six cylinder. ![]() |

If those channels aren't lost, you should know that most of the discrete sounds coming from those channels are then LOCKED in the side channels (at least that's what's happened with the demo's I've tried). Applying PLIIx will NOT result in the same sound you'd get from a working 7.1 track. |

![]() I wonder if those forum members that are so forgiving of TrueHD with DRC because you can just "turn it off" would be as forgiving if something similar was applied to the video codec. What if all VC-1 encodes had DNR applied as a default? Sure you could just turn it off with your player, but it would forced on you otherwise. Something tells me that there would be less a forgiving outlook on meddling, if vc-1 had this "feature" while avc didn't have it at all. |

Why are DTS fanboys forgiving when DTS had bitstream bombs (though that was related to hardware issues), has improper metadata, "hot" mixes and other issues as well? |

What's really odd is the fact that I for one - who has stated repeatedly that if that DRC and Dialnorm were taken off Blu discs - wouldn't have a problem with Dolby at all. Is this just an opportunity to start a food fight or something? |
