I just got my Ultimate Limited box set today.

I still own the last release with both films that came in a steelbook case.

Is there ANY reason to keep those discs? Any worthwhile content on them that wasn't carried forward to the current 8-disc box set?

Watched some of the TV version so far. And yeah not the right version and that's disappointing. One of the biggest reasons I bought it to be honest (next to the GBII deleted scenes and the workprint). I doubt Sony would replace it for that but I hope there's enough awareness that it's the wrong TV cut, so the actual 1987 version can be on the next release if possible, or even as a download.

EDIT: Til then there's the unofficial recording mentioned above.

Sony should only need the receipt because, the name of the retailer, the price and everything else is already on the receipt. Now what the hell does Sony need photos of the discs for? If the customer had received all the discs they were supposed to, they wouldn't be complaining. If Sony had their shit together, nobody wouldn't have to go through all this hassle. It's their f**k up, not the consumer!

Thank you Mr Mailman for shoving my beloved box set into my mailbox. Don't you know ghosts are claustrophobic? Had Amazon been smart enough to actually ship this properly, you would have needed to get out of your car to deliver my precious package. Sorry that I inconvenienced you. I will no longer plow a spot in front of my mailbox for you. You're dead to me.

Oh the irony...

My set took some lovely damage.

How in the actual fu*@! are we getting damage from inside the packaging? Did the packing person drop it before placing it inside? I love how they give us smashed up slips and cases but go out of their way to place that little cardboard protector inside.

So I called Amazon directly and the woman told me I could send it back. I told her that is not an option as it is sold out. She then said she would process a replacement for me, but then quickly said it was not possible to do so on her end AKA it's sold out and likely not coming back. I was finally getting through to her! So we were back to me sending it back for a full refund. I explained to her it was not an option as I wanted the set. I then brought up the partial refund option. She asked me to hold as she checked. She came back with a silly figure of $13... I accepted it. Not much I can do at this point. I expressed how I felt about the packaging and that was about it. Really sad situation for some many of us collectors. I feel your pain. I've been getting movies a very long time through Amazon and other retailers and this is by far the worst packaging I have ever seen.

On a more positive note, I did receive all the correct discs along with their corresponding slipcovers.

How Amazon/USPS feels right now regarding how they go about shipping/packaging/handling.
Hey at least you’re mailman puts it in the right box. My mailman is so incompetent that he puts my movies in the wrong box 50% of the time and I have get replacement from Best Buy.

I can’t speak for Ghostbusters II, but everything for the first movie from that set was ported over to this release.

Again, what should I do if my Amazon order hasn't shipped yet?

Because I ordered this earlier last month and got word it was sold out the first few days of its announcement in December.

Should I cancel it or still wait?

Because people lie to try and get extras to sell or whatever. You know this. So it's perfectly within Sony's right to ask for pictures, and it's not a hassle to snap a photo on you're phone, so bellyaching about it serves no purpose. You also know this as well.

I ordered mine last month as well and just got it today. Just prepare yourself for damage if and when it ships. I would still keep that order for now.

Keep your order. You never know if they'll get some more in stock. Let them cancel it.

My set came with two copies of Ghostbusters 4k, so looking to trade with someone who has two copies of Ghostbusters II 4k instead of going through the Sony bureaucracy,

I'm currently trying to figure out which new discs are going into the 2019 steelbook and a custom case for the Mastered In 4K version. I don't want to have to open the boxset every-time I want a different disc.

Is everything from the previous GBII UHD/Blu-Ray on the new one, wasn't there a fan commentary on the 2019 release?

The fan commentary was only on the GB1 disc I believe. Photo of the Steelbook card with bonus content here: https://ultrahd.highdefdigest.com/71...steelbook.html

Got my set from DD. Box was crushed, but the set was secured well. Set was in great condition and all disks accounted for.

The video quality on the new Ghostbusters 4k encode is definitely an improvement from the cursory peeks I have taken while comparing a few spots between the two versions.

Some of the differences I have noticed with madvr in 1080p SDR downconversion is improved grain reproduction depending on the shot and increased temporal resolution.

Though subtle the opening Columbia Logo demonstrates even with a duped optical shot grain reproduction has been improved.

At 48:39 watch specifically the top of the building where the lightening strikes occur one can observe with the new encode that it exhibits significantly less compression artifacts which are more visible on the original encode.

24:14 observe in this wide shot of Dana and Peter's heads and upper bodies that the grain is more ill defined and exhibits lost fidelity due to higher compression, maybe due to less frequent fuller frame updates, in the original 4K encode vs the new encode. Likely subtle for most but it is noticeable in motion.

I maybe wrong but I think many if not all the opticals have been gently grain managed in a judicial fashion. Or it could be attributable the methods used for the original VFXs.

Watching the different clean live action shots with varying exposures in contrast with the massaged opticals during the final moments of the Slimer capture scene at 36:56 one can observe the improvements in finer detail and grain with the new encode vs the old. Again not an overtly stark difference but one in which those who are observant of such things will take notice.

The new encode base HDR stream is 59.4 GiBs vs the old encode 42.9 GiBs.

Celluloid based source material benefits the most from more robust higher quality encodes which better preserves the grain and the underlying finer detail fidelity along with greater temporal/motion resolution, whereas cleaner digital material can get away with smaller encodes without as much adverse visual impact.

The Indiana Jones encodes would have benefited greatly from more robust encodes but Disney-Mount went cheap and went with 66gb platters. Oh well.

I look forward to watching these new encodes properly soon.

Disney has nothing to do with the first 4 Indy films.

I think he's just saying that slapping a movie (that could actually do with the extra bits) onto a UHD66 is called "doing a Disnee", though ironically enough I've yet to see any serious evidence that Disnee's UHDs have been compromised by their allergy to triple-decker discs, aside from The Last Jedi.
