June 6? That sounds about right. Just in time for the new movie.

Ugh, I was hoping to hold out on 4K for a year or two. This is the first good movie announced so far.

Can't wait to see people try to hold out when Deadpool is announced.

Ghostbusters 2 also available for pre-order at the same site with the same release date (June 6):
http://cdon.se/film/ghostbusters_2_(...-ray)-36923344

Too bad they are 2 different items, not the 1 & 2 combopack.

I guess it makes sense to release them around the time that the new film is in cinemas. This however is one of thoese films that, while I love, don't really feel the need to upgrade from the blu.

But if 4K IS as integral and important as some people think it will become, then 4K Deadpool will naturally stay around. Why so much care about having things the first day?

I say, be patient and watch to see if things stand the test of time. But that's just me (and I literally don't have the funds to purchase any of these for a while, so I'm probably projecting my jealousy through false "wisdom")

If nobody dives in then the medium will fail. If every person took that approach it would fail.

The recent "Mastered in 4K" BD looks very nice. But since GHOSTBUSTERS is such a grainy film, I would expect the UHD-BD to still yield an improvement -- with wider color gamut much appreciated.

The blu-ray really does preserve the grain quite pleasantly. This will be a good title to see in 4k and to help understand what they do with that grain.

What's wrong with an HDR grade? I thought that was the whole point of UHD's ... I'm so confused

The same thing that would be wrong with releasing City Lights in color or Citizen Kane in widescreen- the movie wasn't designed for it.

It may indeed be the whole point of UHDs. However, the point of UHDs ought to be fidelity to the original movies.

Yes, they should, but in light of the reports that they've applied an HDR grade to Lawrence of Arabia, I fear that they won't.

I suddenly have visions of the HDR secret police quietly rounding up all the non-conformist SDR 4K versions of movies in the dead of night and spiriting them away, never to be seen again...

*mike holds up his hard drive and says "from my cold, dead hand", Chuck Heston style*
