Outside the US studios, most of their international stuff has been European based which is fine as there are a TON of European films that need releases. They released a handful of Asian stuff during the DVD era, but man I would love to see Kino get more into Asian cinema. The Asian stuff seems to be selling pretty well and a lot of labels are getting into it, but most labels don't have the pockets Kino does, so there has been a lot of independent stuff or smaller films getting releases. I would love to see Kino do a deal with Toei from Japan and Fortune Star from China. Arrow, Film Movement, Criterion, etc release some good stuff, but not a whole lot of titles. (Well Arrow does, somewhat)

Friday the 13th turned out to be my lucky day! My latest Kino WSL order arrived in excellent condition. And just as I finished typing that last sentence, I got an email announcing the Kino Cannes 2022 sale. Must ... try ... to ... exercise ... a ... little ... self-control!

Two Margaret Sullavan’s, a Claudette Colbert and an Irene Dunne in August. great news! Hopefully King Vidor’s So Red the Rose (1935) will make the cut next round. I don’t believe it has ever had a hole video release so there may be legal issues. There a still a good number of Claudette Colbert films that could make the cut too.

I've heard this to be the case for a lot of the international studios. I will say this though, Toei the Japanese company apparently has been a lot better with prices recently and very accommodating that smaller labels like Mondo Macabre, Film Movement, and others are able to do deals with them. Not sure if Kino would ever be interested in doing business with them, but they have a ton of great titles that are in HD.

It took a company Viz media, aka Warner Brothers owned to nab the original Sailor Moon. That fee was insane from what people gather. And that's freaking anime!

I grabbed a few titles from the while supplies last sale:

Bay Of Blood
Four Times That Night
Knives Of The Avenger
Roy Colt & Winchester Jack
The Paradine Case
Take The Money & Run

I heard that Bay Of Blood was better than the Arrow and wanted to replace the last few titles from the Anchor Bay Bava DVD sets.

From Sullavan, I would also like to have "The Moon is Our Home".

As for Colbert, the ones I want the most are "Honor among lovers", "Tonight is ours", "Private worlds", "Zaza" and "Skylark" (as we know Midnight is unavailable).

For Dunne, besides "Back Street", would love to see "Invitation to happiness", "Unfinished business" and "Lady in a jam".

But the title I want the most, in case of a new Universal deal is "Kitty" (1945). More Paulette Goddard, as "Standing room only", "Lady has plans" and "Forest Rangers" would also be very much welcome releases. Her pairings with Ray Milland and Fred McMurray are always great to watch. It's a pitty "The Crystal Ball" is not with Universal, as it's a terrific comedy.

Worth noting that the remaining 15 titles in the Sony deal were all previously released on Blu-ray in the US (presumably through Sony, Image, Mill Creek, or most likely Twilight Time):

40s x 1
50s x 4
60s x 1
70s x 4
80s x 3
90s x 2

Sadly, if it's anything like the Indicator release, the PQ wil be pretty bad.

If you can’t wait, Honor Among Lovers is out on a region free disc in France.

You can do better than that! At least give warning when it's going to happen. A week would be great but at least a couple days.

Otherwise you're writing off those with time zone challenges, those who don't track these things obsessively, those with less money, those working at that time...

I say give lots of folks a chance! Yes, sell some first come first serve. Give some as a freebie with a large purchase. Do some as a lottery (either free or a guaranteed slot to buy). Or maybe a contest (best Kino poem or joke or art or whatever).

If it's just a land rush, I'd expect at least half of these to end up on ebay at 10x whatever price you come up with.

This. Honestly, I wouldn't have bothered licensing this one. It's mist likely the same terrible master and they'll probably get a lot complaints related to that issue. IMO, it's just not worth the trouble.

I haven't seen this one, but it seems right up my alley. Shame that the master is a mess unless it's been restored, but doubtful.

I wonder if one of the four films from the 1970's could be the Hammer film Creatures the World Forgot (1970)?
