Jeez, what a contrast! I mean, I didn't like the movie at all, but I love that fight scene, and Tom moves like lightning with those moves while the guy in the show feels so slow and clunky by comparison.

The fight sequences in Cruise's film tell a story. They're funny, suspenseful, and give room for character development. The fights in the series are just for someone's stunt reel.

As far as Jack Reacher goes -- despite the fact I respect the original material from Lee Child, and the fanbase he has and their right in terms of what to expect and want from a book-to-film or series adaptation -- I really, really liked what McQuarrie and Cruise delivered with their Jack Reacher film. I think it's a rare example of where a film can go a different direction, but works almost entirely right within its own reasons.

If I had to pick one Reacher to watch, it would be Cruise's first film over either the sequel or the more faithfully adapted Prime series.

From Maverick to Jack Reacher ... who's next, Baba Yaga?

People think Cruise made a better Reacher? I am closer to Cruise's height and I thought Ritchson knocked that role out of the ballpark. He fought like a one man machine. What Cruise was doing was closer to something I expect from an assassins movie. It is great, just not for Reacher.

That's EXACTLY how Lee Child portrayed him in the books. The only time he moves quickly is when he's fighting. And when he fights he maps out every move he is going to make before he makes them - no wasted effort - maximum damage. And Reacher says a number of times - he absolutely hates to run.

When you're 6' 5" 250 pounds - moving like lightening will give you a heart attack.

I confess I've never read a Lee Child book and likely never will so I thought the Cruise as Reacher movie was very good and his stature didn't bother me one tiny bit.

Charisma goes a long way.

Also it's funny how TV action series are waaay more violent than their movie counterparts.

Why would it - you knew absolutely nothing about Jack Reacher before you saw the movie. To you it was just another Tom Cruise action movie. From that standpoint - it was OK. But it wasn't Jack Reacher as Lee Child invented him.

The TV show was very faithful to the first book, though it did add an important character who was not in it. And the book has some very violent scenes in it that were very well portrayed in the TV show - especially the prison bathroom fight scene.

I think the site could use a "Prison Bathroom Fight Scenes" thread..
Pics or it didn't happen!!

There's a video of a bathroom fight involving some MMA guys against vs. protagonists, somewhere out there on Twitter. It's a real hoot!!

It’s almost time. Tuesday night. Can’t wait.

Can we start a new thread specifically for reactions to the film in a couple days? This thread jumped the shark a long time ago.

No point. It will only end up getting merged with this one. Not sure when it turned into the Jack Reacher thread, but I suppose it will come around once the movie is released this week.

Agreed and as I mentioned before, personally I don’t care how faithful the movie or series is to the novels, nor is there any rule it’s required to be. I would rather the TV series concentrate on the mental or physical toughness of Reacher, the character being big or little, e.g. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxBQLFLei70#t=7m19s .

Also something goofy from the TV series was that Willa, as compared to like for instance when she’s in the police station (see the trailer) suddenly grew a good six inches or more in the shower scene when they are embracing in the nude together. Funny that.

I liked him playing an assassin too and (nothing against Alan) but I think even when Tom Cruise is not moving or saying anything, in any movie, he exhibits more expressive facial expressions, i.e. wonderment -

the scene -

I’m sure you already know this even though it hasn’t been mentioned in the media, press conferences, etc., but just in case you missed it, a classy move - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...d#post18565297

"Top Gun: Maverick" opened here in Brazil on Saturday. They say it's "advance previews", but the movie is playing EVERYWHERE with 4-5 showtimes per screen, so I consider it "opened".
Anyway, I saw this on Saturday in IMAX. The aspect ratio is NOT expanded for the whole movie, but only for the aerial scenes, which is where the aspect ratio really matters. So I'm not complaining, I'm just warning as I read somewhere that it would be full frame for the whole movie, just like "Oblivion" was.
It's a good action movie, but the plot is really nothing special and the romance is corny and underdeveloped (just like the original movie was).
To me, it's a 7/10.

How long is the movie in ScreenX ? I mean, I don't want to buy something more expensive just to have 10 minutes on the side screens.
