The Clubber fight scenes are some of the best fight scenes in the whole series. Ya they are short but they are action packed.

Absolutely watch the theatrical first. Director's Cut takes itself too seriously for its own good, and it cuts out some important lines of dialogue.

Rocky III will always be my personal favorite. Watching that movie in a theater with a packed house, the crowd was going crazy during the second fight against Clubber. I love that Apollo and Rocky became friends and the final scene is absolutely perfect. I also love the speech Adrian gives Rocky on the beach. For me, Rocky-Rocky III is the perfect trilogy.

When Rocky IV came out I was a senior in high school. Watching it I was thinking, this movie sucks. I hated what happened to Apollo. To be honest, after all this time I still barely watch it. I like it a bit better but just barely. I am curious to see the director's cut included with this set.

The Making of ROCKY VS. DRAGO by Sylvester Stallone - YouTube
Gotta disagree strongly here. The TC is what was intended at the time and made sense. Yes, the robot is goofy but it shows the excesses that Rocky had at the time and his extreme spending. Plus, robots were big in the 80s and it made sense that he'd buy Paulie one to give him company and serve him.

The recut is fine but to me, it's playing with your food. It's changing history and is almost like a Marvel "What If" story. The recut isn't bad but if I'm watching Rocky IV, I'm watching the theatrical cut as it was envisioned in 1985 - not a revisionist version like Godfather III or Apocalypse Now.

5 sucked.

They are all MGM. Its just that SONY originally released the movies for MGM on home video and then FOX and now WARNER.

I really want this set but it seems like the kind of set that will go on sale for $30-$40 sometime in the next couple of months. I'll probably get it then.

I was lucky enough to see Rocky III in the theater. I was 8 years old at the time and loved the movie. I also saw Rocky IV and Rocky V in the theatre. I was 12 years old when I saw Rocky IV and 17 years old when I saw Rocky V.

In almost all cases I suggest people watch the director’s preferred cut of a movie, but with this, though I do personally think the Director’s Cut is a solid improvement overall, I suggest going with the Theatrical Cut first. The differences are substantial, so much so that I count them as different films. The theatrical cut is the prime version of the movie, in my opinion. It just fits better. Definitely check out the Director’s Cut later on though.

Same in my theater - plus everyone was laughing silly with the Thunderlips sequence. Then dead silent after the first Clubber fight.

Geez, 1982 feels like another lifetime ago.

If you were to only watch one, I'd suggest the Theatrical, as that's what the world knows as Rocky IV. Then you know what people are talking about when it's mentioned.

Agreed. Rocky vs. Drago is more of a curiosity piece. It's worth watching if you are a super fan of the movie and want to see a different edit of the film.

Again, I didn't think it was bad, it just doesn't feel necessary at all. The TC is what people know and (mostly) love. I don't think the DC is going to make people that trashed the movie suddenly look at it as a respectable drama like the original Rocky. Or, fans that love Rocky IV aren't suddenly going to switch to watching the DC.

It's just Stallone being bored and nitpicking his films on how he would direct them at 76 years old instead of 38.

I'd say watch it once IF you love Rocky IV but I think it's probably a one and done for me and it's back to the TC for future viewings.
