It's a montage in search of a movie

One of the awesome things about the first two is that Apollo Creed is not real villain. Both he and Rocky are from the streets. but Apollo is kind of removed from it. Which is what happens to Rocky by the 3rd film.

Apollo might have been arrogant, but he still comes off a real person. Clubber Lang does not. It's a one note bad guy character.
Rocky III is way more entertaining to watch compared to Rocky II for me.

I'm not saying three isn't worthwhile. The thing with Mickey is a big scene in the film. But there isn't that much relatable otherwise. The Clubber fight scenes are short and sloppy.

It's still good, but only one scene is any real meaning.

I disagree. I think the comradery and training with Apollo was some of the best Rocky in the series.

It’s amazing how many old blu rays look out of focus and can’t see any of the grain or detail etc. but the 4k scans bring it all out.

More importantly, Rocky himself doesn't seem like Rocky. He seems like Sylvester Stallone. I realize Rocky has more money and fame in this one, but he's not the endearing simpleton he was before.

Still, it's more entertaining for me than part IV.

Default Rocky II 4K Caps

CLICK ON SPOILER FOR MORE CAPS:

[Show spoiler]

Similar to the first one, spot-checking it, it looks very good overall, excellent even. Not perfect (you can still see some small-ish chroma errors sometimes), but definitely a worthy 4K transfer. It looks very filmic and true to its source.

Will try to do Rocky III soon.

That stuff is okay, but kind of cheesy. IMO.

I dunno. Outside of the Mickey stuff it just doesn't really grab me as much as some of the other entries.

I wonder if Sly was at this stage where he felt people were relating him to the character so much that maybe he wanted to show people that he wasn't the "simpleton" that Rocky is.

Maybe these thoughts started creeping in his mind by that time. He does the samething around Rocky 5... He does shows and stuff where he is giving off this vibe where he is trying to be more articulate in interviews and dress in ways that make him look so different from the Rocky character.

So in terms of Rocky IV, would you guys suggest watching the DC before the TC? They're two separate purchases on iTunes lol.

I ended up buying The Knockout Collection, so that means the 6-film set should be out next year. You're welcome everyone.

I actually like the slipbox quite a bit, It's my preferred semi-matte finish and doesn't take up too much room on the shelf. The disc case though has off-gassing bad and all the discs are smudged up.

I'd honestly be fine with it if these boxsets just included the 4K discs with a slipbox and had a Blu-ray disc that included all the bonus features. It bothers me that they drop the HD discs and the specials features go along with it.

There's not really a reason to watch the TC. Stallone recut Rocky IV in 2020 with some alternate footage and dropped a lot of the really corny stuff. There's a documentary about the recut on YouTube (it's quite incredible how insightful Stallone is):

I didn’t like the DC much so I wouldn’t recommend it at all. But if you have to watch it, I’d say watch the DC first. It takes away a lot of the cheese and fun of the TC so itll drag if you watch the DC second.

So I bought both versions of Rocky IV lol. For only $6.99 CAD these were a steal.

Gonna check out the DC (probably this weekend) before checking out the TC. Very curious to see how different they are.

I always will watch the TC because that's the movie I saw when I went to see it in the theatre in 1985 when I was in the 6th grade.
