Yeah i find i do have to be in the right frame of mind to watch something really sad or emotional. I naturally gravitate more towards fantastical entertainment so Aftersun wouldn't usually be my cup of tea but it really is exceptional. I watched this with my wife and she didn't enjoy it all! She said she just found it really depressing ha ha.

I'm so glad I don't feel this way about films. Or music or any art. I feel sorry for people who can't channel that raw devastating emotion into the beautiful compositions they are.

The film 'Close' (2022) did the same thing to me. Utterly devastating. But amazingly directed and acted. Instead of depression, I'm left with a deep love of these type of films as they move me so much.
