Not for nuthin', but...who cares if these game consoles play DVDs, especially now?

Nintendo knows that just about everyone that would ever buy a DVD player of some sort owns by now, so why have any unecessary costs on the machine that don't need to be there?

That being said, I would have gladly paid an extra $50 on this thing for HD resolutions and Dolby Digital. They're only going to Dolby Pro Logic II again and nothing past 480p.

Somehow the gimmicky controller makes this thing a "next generation" console despite the above two glaring oversights and, imo at least, needless omissions.
I think $50 for basic RCA cables is too much, which basicaly all HD cables are. Try it, grab a composite cable, plug red in to red composite, white into blue composite, and yellow into green composite, it will work , However there are cheap component cables that are color coded for noobs and have decent sheilding from RFI and EMI interference.

I hope there will be official nintendo component cables, and hope it will not dissapear like game cube's did. Then Nintendo will remove the feature in future versions of the Wii.

If you got an HDTV, even if 480p is sub HD, It will look significantly better than 480i.
Expecially on composite cables. Composite causes color bleeding and loss of detail from the chroma (color) being embeded into the Y signal (black and white). S-video is better as it seperates the Y and croma. Thus less color bleeding and higher contrast. Component is the ultimate as it splits croma it to to parts Pb and Pr. thats why component is often refered to YPbPr. Even at 480i, component is superior to those standard composite cables that came with all consoles since SNES days.

Still Wii will change people's veiw about games. That Xbox 360 and PS 2 controler that young inexperienced gamers are used to, have been developed over battle tested ideas from Nintendo. In fact the most gimicky feature into day's contolers, the rumble feature was first done by Nintendo in Starfox 64. Now every freaking contoller has rumble feature.

Sony has motion detection, it's just a matter of time befor MSFT does it too. Already nintedo is evolving games beyond just superfical graphics that fade over time. It's evolution that lasts forever.
