Ok, today is the day! Mondo Macabro has Curse of the Dog Dog and Inferno on sale right now! Not only that, they will be shipping their stock in only a few weeks. I highly suggest film fans check these out so we can show our support for releases like these. The higher the sales, the more likely we’ll get more Japanese films from labels like MM and similar ones. I truly urge everyone taking a chance with these two, as you will not regret it. They are fantastic films. Here is the link to place an order.

So Curse of the Dog God and Inferno are getting close to 75% being sold out. I highly suggest people don't sit these out because they are truly something special.

Hope you enjoy them! Both are very unique films and star some of my favorite classic Toei actors from the 70's.

Hope Mondo increase the print run. They just got on my radar from the disc-connected YouTube podcast last week

There will be standard editions later. Only thing limited with these are the red case and I think a booklet.

So glad to hear that they're selling well though. Think I'll put together a Toei wishlist this weekend.

Here’s hoping that a UK label is able to license Discotek’s live-action restorations and supplant them with scholarly extras. I have shelves of barebones anime releases from DT but prefer the live-action titles with more context.

My first time leaping to pre-order MM releases! Avant-garde Japanese is one of the rare horror subgenres that I’m able to watch & enjoy. I’m guessing they’ll increase this run since it’s day 1 of 7 for preorders. It also seems extremely likely that MM will seek out similar films based upon this stellar sales performance.

That's good to know since these are the first Mondo titles I've ordered. Are the limited editions usually exclusive to their online store only?

Yes. Unlike Vinegar Syndrome I don't think I've seen Mondo's limited editions available at any of the usual suspects like Diabolik and Orbit (unless a used resell.)

I think it's unlikely the limited run will be increased as Jared on the Mondo thread stated the limited editions are essentially ready to ship.

The limited editions are hand-numbered too, so they couldn't increase the print run without messing up the total. Again, the same disc content will be on a standard edition released later. The LE is more for people interested in the booklet and hardcore Mondo collectors. Though it certainly doesn't hurt to support these in particular since it can convince them to pursue more Toei films. Maybe it could even get them to look into other Japanese studios eventually. A quick sell-out is a good thing, but casual buyers don't really have to worry about missing out if they don't mind getting the standard version later.

**Bundle initially limited to 800 copies, though more might be added if the demand is there. Bundle will expire after ONE WEEK (on the morning of 9/22) of being on sale, roughly when shipping is tentatively scheduled to begin.**
Thank you both for the clarification I realize now that this ^ comment was referring adding more bundles based on demand—not increasing the run size of the titles themselves. (I also hadn’t looked at the individual title pages to see that each is 1500 while bundle is 800.)

Encouraging more Japanese titles was absolutely my motivation to preorder. I’m happy to hear it’s going fast & hope that bodes well for our collective interest here.

I saw Film Movement promoting that it's now out on Blu-ray, but can't seem to find it.

And this folks is the exact reason I need to slow down my daily Blu-ray news as it's seriously beginning to cost me...

If these are even in the same ballpark when it comes to the trippy-ness of a film like Hausu I'd be pretty happy if they live up..

These are trippy, but nothing will ever top Hausu levels of trippy. Hausu is a little bit more abstract, but Curse of the Dog God will have you questioning some things. Inferno will have some really out there visuals, but the plot is a bit more straight forward/coherent than the other two.

While not 100%, but due to some incredible detective work over on the Radiance UK thread, two possible titles for 2024 are Peony Lantern (AKA The Bride from Hades) from 1968 and The Haunted Castle from 1969.

Watched the new release from WellGo USA of Bad City. I actually really enjoyed this and wanted to watch it the moment I heard about it.

Japan doesn't throw us a lot of Cop and Yakuza films anymore so I'll take them when I can get them. It's not as gritty as the 70's film, but I would say the first 75% of the film is really strong. It's once it turns into an action film that it kind of loses its focus and tries to wrap everything up in a nice little bow even if logic is thrown out the window which is very typical of current Japanese films. Still, it has a very strong start and overall I think it was noble effort.

Plus the film stars a ton of the late 90's early 2000's actors who pretty much appeared in all of the yakuza films of that era.

I was wondering if Radiance might work with Daiei considering Arrow hasn't in a while. Would be wonderful news. You'd have to wonder if Simeoni purposely wrote those on the back of the page to tease future titles not on the 2023 schedule.
Kind of surprised it took a year for anyone to notice.
