I wouldn't go that far. I've bought and skipped many discs due to caps-a-holic. caps and opinions in here can go a long way to help sort out the good from the bad. But if you haven't seen it for yourself, any opinions you state have much less weight than if you've seen ity yourself.

I saw the screens of Love Actually and knew immediately it was utter trash. I didn't need to see the disc. But since i already had it and it was opened, I took a look for myself, and confirmed it - it's garbage. But my opinion still had some validity before I viewed it myself. There's nothing wrong with informed opinions. It depends on the source of the information.

For me I'd chip so much of the "present day" exploration and cringeworthy dialogue, especially that obnoxious guy.

I'd edit it to have Cal
[Show spoiler]kill Fabrizo
cause the more Billy Zane we get the better.

I'd also really edit that spitting scene, it's just gross, I get it's inclusion but I'm sorry I'm with Frances Fisher on that moment
I’d get rid of everything present day. Honestly, none of it matters. And while I don’t have anything against Gloria Stuart, I think the way her scenes were shot and scripted is annoying, especially toward the end. “Six…out of 1500”. Cut to everyone looking devastated…bearded dude learns his lesson about trivializing a tragedy. It’s all so on-the-nose “wasn’t this a terrible event?” dialogue, where the *story* could convey that perfectly well on its own. Hell, without it you could even make the logical leap that Rose used the money from selling the necklace to finance the rest of her life as a final eff you to Hockley, and I’d personally be fine with that interpretation.

True and the way they handle exposition sometimes... it's bad.

If you are talking about the scan that's floating on the internet, it's not a 100% correct representation of how the film should look when projected in a theatre. The best thing would be for some fans to pool money, rent and watch Titanic on 35mm at an actual theatre and then compare.

Yes but let's be honest: if I had the disc right here (y'know, to go with the 1000+ UHDs I've already purchased) you wouldn't give a shit about what I have to say anyway

But, again, being renowned as some sort of all-encompassing technical guru is absolutely no indicator of good taste. One does not automatically guarantee the other and never has done. More than anything Cameron is a pragmatist, like sticking to his Super 35 dogma for years so he could rejig his work as best he could for then-current home video standards and that's exactly what he's doing now, rejigging his work to make it fit as best as possible - according to his taste, no one else's - for the latest video standards.

Edit: Same with the variable HFR kick that he's on (into which Titanic was also converted for the recent "4K 3D" theatrical re-release), he's after solving something that's pissed him off for years re: 3D strobing and couldn't give a toss about what other people think of it. It looks good to him and that's that.

I swear sharpening was done back in 2011-12 too, cause those promo scans show clear signs of not being unmolested by tinkering. Lips, eyelashes and hair on Kate look unnaturally crunchy or sharp.

You keep saying that but I don't see it, they're sharp but still have that sweet photochemical tang to them. In the actual 2012 master there's sharpening though as that was part of Lowry's special sauce.

We need those 1$ cinemas where they show outdated movies.

By the way, if anyone wants to do the whole "you think you know more than the filmmakers" thing your nerd rage might be better directed at the people who want to re-edit the movie itself rather than those who have the temerity to comment on a video transfer. I wouldn't change a frame of Titanic's story, but that's just me

Whats funny is I recall watching the 3D blu about a year ago and I kept thinking he said that line several times as they were making their way through the crowd. (Unless I’m mistaking it for another line, or maybe the fact names are said a lot.) You mentioning the line Might be why I’m remembering it, I almost wonder if Cameron eliminated it thinking it wasn’t needed.

But when lines are missing it’s kind of jarring when you know films by heart, it’s like hearing a song 100 times and all the sudden a word or line is missing.
Just checked out the 2.0 DTS track on the disc. The line is missing on it too. What a disappointment. The audio for the 4K stream on Vudu is still DD+ 5.1, which still has the line.

It's even on the 4K disc's subtitles.

Looks like they got rid of the original subtitles for the Swedish lines in the beginning of the movie as well.

Maybe the real question here is, does anyone send Titanic era Cameron out for sandwiches?

Well, I really like The Hobbit: Extended Edition fanedit that condensed the trilogy to 4 hours, one of the best fanedit out there.

I imagine this list of issues will grow. Tragedy indeed.

I’ve never seen Titanic before and I don’t know if the digital 4k looks the same as the 4k disc, but there is something not pleasing to my eyes when watching Titanic 4k.

Maybe this is just how the film was shot and released, but there’s some kind of filter that just makes everything look artificial or off to my eyes and I’m not a technical person at all, so I’m not sure if I am using the correct words to describe what I am seeing.

I have only watched the first 30 minutes, but there is something there that I’m not enjoying.

Is this how it has always looked? Again, I do not know what to call what I am seeing that isn’t pleasing to my eye. The details look amazing, certainly.
