What does the second film have to do with the original?

I think it's a silly issue, but, when it comes down to it, even IV is questionably related to the first film. Yes, William Katt returned, but he's practically playing a different character, aside from the name, and the events of the first film are never mentioned (that I recall). Heck, Roger's writing career is never even mentioned in IV, and he was a Stephen-King-esque best-selling author in the first one.
I bought the Arrow blu-ray of IV (it's region-free) and watched the extras, hoping there would be a discussion of this. There isn't. |

Horror Show is a great sequel and i'm happy it's the third in the series. It fits nicely.

Diabolik had some 4K Mediabooks available so I grabbed the original, a version of II and Part IV. The fourth film is my second favorite after the original. I've read these are not true 4Ks but who knows when these will get Stateside upgrades and I decided not to sit around waiting.

I’m debating whether to get the mediabooks UHD. It’s almost $200 for four movies.

I seem to remember reading that it was actually written to be House III, but MGM/UA wanted the title changed to The Horror Show. Probably hoping to start a new franchise.

The reverse - it was conceived from the start as the third House film, but renamed in the U.S. for marketing. The reason was that the movie was closer to a slasher than a haunted house film like the first two, so it was thought the movie might have a better chance with fans of that genre if it was renamed.

I have a soft spot for it (hey, the pizza jingle!), but it is a rough, and very strange, movie, with Roger becoming a ghost star (or something?) at the end of the film; the daughter being in a wheelchair with no visible way for her to get to the second floor of the house; the weird business tycoon trying to get the house; and the weird subplot with Denny Dillon snooping around.
I know people have suggested that it's a framing issue from Arrow, but I've wondered if the lady (presumably a crew member) who accidentally appears in one scene was a mistake that the director left in, as the movie was probably shot for video. |

There's also a shot when the girl gets into bed and you can see the Prop Warehouse sticker on the frame. So many errors in that movie, but it's great.
