Stallone went way past schedule recutting Rocky IV, so I had just assumed he was taking too long recutting Rocky V & Rocky Balboa for them to be included in the initial boxset. It makes little sense not to include Rocky V otherwise - easily the least popular of the franchise, meaning the single editions won't sell very well without a new cut.

The only thing I can think of is that I can remember reading somewhere that the negatives for some deleted scenes from Rocky V aren't available anymore and only exist now as low quality tapes. Maybe there was truth in this. Very disappointing if true. The deleted scenes on YouTube are great (but awful quality).
I wonder if it's because John G. Avildsen directed Rocky V, not Sly. Sly is also beefing with the producers of Rocky over the rights, but that doesn't explain why he still go to re-cut Rocky IV and Rocky Balboa. I dunno. If any of them need a re-cut it's V.
