I use the Analogs cause my receiver is almost 4 years old.

Nothing wrong with using analogs, you'll get the same sound from them as you do with HDMI.

So I finally got my new surrounds in and installed. A beautiful pair of RC-Mini bookshelf speakers in piano black. Man I love these things. They sound absolutely amazing and I couldn't be happier since I'm now done with my complete RC setup. (RC-10 L/R, RC-Mini Center, RC-Mini Bookshelf Surrounds, ESW-8 Subwoofer). Plus I know that after a little time they will only sound better.

Feel free to check out my new HT pics.

Callas01- you can also add "slimmer" to the list on page 1, he has the Energy Take Classic 5.1

Thanks so much. I have to carefully balance my "need" for good sound and the need to keep my wife happy. The Energy's make it easy to maintain that balance though .

EDIT-Accidently deleted my old HT folder so feel free to rate again, Thanks.

Maybe some small speakers but they do deliver big sound, the RC truly sound amazing even in a small size like the RC-Mini.

I had the chance to auditionned a pair of RC-mini in stereo without a sub and man wow they really are unbelievable. 80hz-23khz 150 rms one word Sick

Oh well I did not get Top gun yet hehe but decided to buy The Dark Knight in Dolby True HD. OMG what a difference. At first when I poped in the disc and started watching the movie for about 30 seconds I said to myself wait a second it can't be True HD sound, sounds like a DVD. I was indeed in dolby digital 5.1.

I had the brilliant idea to press that Audio button on my BDP remote control, Ha! Music to my ears baby, the player was displaying top right of my screen 2. English Dolby True HD and did sound a whole lot better. Totally worth it for a real cinéphile/Audiophile like me. That's it I'm addicted.

I re-rated your system, I like it. Left you a comment too. Congrats on the speakers... what does the wife do for surround sound?

Also, does the sony 820 do a good enough job pushing the RCs? I had the sony 710 which has the same amp as the 820, but upgraded to the 920 for the bigger amp.... plus, the 920 gave me LPCM and HD audio the 710 didn't do.

FYI, all warner movies have to have the audio adjusted at the start of the movie for some stupid reason....

The Dark Knight is a fantastic movie. Great Audio, PQ and Pure Entertainment. The biggest thing with HD audio is the detail that comes through.

Thanks, the wife will sit with me on the couch fairly often. She usually just uses the chair when we watch SD television. Plus she doesn't "need" the surround sound as much as I do .

The 820 does a really good job for me. I was limited in my receiver choices due to the depth of the shelf it's on. It was really my only option and I bought it (over the 720) since I figure it will one day go to the bedroom and the HD decoders will come in handy then. I never have issues though with power. It's actually a very efficient reciever, I think the Sony's get a poor shake around here.

One day though when I have more space for a dedicated A/V rack I'll hopefully get a Marantz 6003. I love how they look and sound. Until then the 820 is great and I've been really happy with it.

your choice on receivers is a lot like mine, I was going to get the Pioneer 1018, but the AV rack made my choice for me.... I was between the 2 receivers anyways, but depth of the reciever was the deciding factor. I agree, Sonys do get a poor shake on this site. Mine is great. I too want to upgrade to a Marantz too though.. the 5003. But its all in good time.

Default My Tempest II Outdoor Speakers

Ok i got my Tempest II outdoor Speakers like a couple of weeks ago and finally got around to getting them installed last night out side and OMG I have never been a big fan of 2 way speakers but these things rock they sound amazing especially out doors. I am very impressed so if you ar elooking for Outdoor speakers these things are a steal at $299 and I got them way chepaer than that at amazon. If these inexpensive speakers by energy sound this good I can not imagine how there more expensive stuff sounds. Very pleased.

Thanks for the info Callas I'll take note of that. It did not take me long to figure out I was listening to the Dolby didital 5.1 track. HD Sound really brings out more detail as you said and the difference is very noticable for any audiophile.

God Bless HD

Hello, I'm new to this board, but I was researching Energy speakers for a while here.

So far I have a C-C50 center and just ordered two C-500's for the L/R. I will have to use my Sony HTIB rear surrounds till my funds get back in order. I can't wait till Tuesday to get my C500's!

Welcome!
You can also use one Energy C-200 bookshelf speaker as a center( upright or on its side ), if you want to keep driver size the same across the fronts( other benefits can be found here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=89614 ).
You can find the C-200 here: http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ENC200 .

I would avoid using your Sony HTIB surrounds with the Energy speakers. Especially if they're small satellite size speakers( impedance will probably be different than your Energy speakers, might damage your receiver ).

I checked Sony's website & found the manual for your HTIB.
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/HT7200DH.pdf

The surrounds have a 6 ohm impedance. The receivers specs are( 6 ohms 1kHz, THD 10% ) RMS Output= FRONT:140W per channel, CENTER:140W, SURROUND:140W per channel.
Writing under the receiver speaker inputs says " SPEAKERS IMPEDANCE USE 6-16 OHM.

The Energy C-500 has a sensitivity of 94dB & impedance of 8 ohms nominal/4 ohms minimum.
The Energy C-C50 has a sensitivity of 89dB & impedance of 8 ohms nominal/4 ohms minimum.

On page 17 of your HTIB manual it states:
Tip
Use the supplied speakers to optimize the system’s
performance.

Someone with more knowledge on this subject should probably chime in with their opinion.

The Energys can play at 4-8 ohm so a receiver at 6 ohms should be fine. The bigger issue is when you have speakers that play at 4 ohms and a receiver that only plays at 8 ohms, that would mean the receiver is trying twice as hard to push the speakers. In your particular case its not that big of a problem cause the speakers can handle a 6 ohm rated receiver.

The bigger concern for me is whether or not the C-500s will overpower the C-C50 center channel? You may want to watch how dialog in heavy action scenes play, whether its drowned out or if it is still clear and audible. The C-C50 has 4.5" drivers, the C-C100 has 5.5" drivers and the C-300/C-500s have 6.5" drivers. I am not saying it won't work, just keep in mind if you have trouble with dialog, that could be the reason. On the other hand, My C-50 rear surround does hold up with all the other speakers, so you could be fine. Just want you to know in advance, don't want you to say, oh these suck, if there are any dialog issues.

Just to confirm that using the c-c50 with the c-500 is not bad at all as Callas's c-50 rear surround can keep up with the rest of his setup, the c-c50 is pretty good all in all with the c-500 to make transition seemless and really the dialog does seem to keep up pretty well. I talk from experience since my good friend Danypca has the this setup on Yamy rxv-563.

I also tried it on my system since I baught it for him. I was just unable to find a c-c100 to get the best possible match for him. I like the Zippo's idea of getting a C-200 for the center I'm sure it would be even better but what do you do with the other one if they come in pair. Really I think the c-c50 will do just fine. It's far from beeing a total mismatch.
