The STIII steel using the advanced poster art is probably what's most keeping me from getting this. If they released steels with the famous theatrical artwork for all 6 movies....I might have been tempted, but I'm honestly a bit relieved. It would have been expensive double-dips.

Yeah, that bonus box was unfortunately designed. I got it because I'm a completist and it would've bugged me to not have every available cut, but I don't even keep it on my shelf because it's so awkwardly shaped and flimsy.

I jumped on the Search For Spock steelbook but that one's been a guilty pleasure of mine since I was a kid in the 80s renting it over and over from the video store.

But this one isn't quite enough for me to buy again, I got the big box set with the SLV and that's the real gem there.

Lots of countries haven't got the SLV cut so they could release it in a 3 disc steelbook in Europe.

And we all know what limited edition really means these days, as soon as someone involved is replaced they'll just reissue it since whoever made the decision is gone. Or they'll just change their minds.

That ridiculously large packaging is exactly what turned me off buying the current SLV set. I don't need that kind of clutter current day, just sell me a Steelbook or something, because as stupid as that box is it would just make me buy this Steelbook to put the disc in which is way too much money for one film and just bad value

The box isn't just large and ridiculous; it's so cheaply made and is pretty much guaranteed to scratch your discs. It sits on a shelf somewhere while the discs are safely in a proper Viva Elite case. Worst packaging I've seen for a home release in a long time.

Yeah, the box is a PITA to deal with, so I agree it's best just to store the discs elsewhere.

I don't own any ST movies on 4k yet, except for the recent ST3 release. Figured I would just buy these steels as they come along.
I mean, I already have several blu-ray sets of repeated versions of these movies (at least 4x copies of some of them), and the DVD sets, and a couple VHS box sets, etc...
Do I watch them? No. But I'm a ST sucker like many others.

I don't mind the SLV box, it's got a nice look to it so it can sit on top of my shelves.

It's not like the Criterion Godzilla set, I absolutely put that one in a new case, but this one is okay for now.

If somebody were to make a new case that happened to end up on a certain auction site, I might splurge though.

That's what I did with mine, it's on top of my shelves with several other big boxsets, but the actual discs I put into a case.

I've also got so many other versions of this, I wonder if I could double them up.

I already own this movie on the amaray boxset, and I'm pretty happy with that, so I have no need for this specifically. But this is my favourite Star Trek movie.. and the steel has the great original poster. If it's not limited I might double dip in a future if I see it a good price if not, I'm fine with what I have for now.

I'd buy it though -- if they could get it to me in one piece!

Imagine the size of it if it were a scaled-up version of the Classic Dinky Enterprise!

Probably the same size as the actual prop:

But I'm not sure how many times you could fire the photon torpedoes discs out of the saucer before they'd be trashed!

To heck with the saucer section; I say store the discs standing upright in a tray that slides out of the engineering section when you unscrew the sensor dish! Much more practical, avoids stacked discs.
