Default dolby pro logic II with pcm

I've got a reciever only capable of normal dolby digital and DTS and i tried uncompressed sound using dolby pro logic II to create a surround effect.I'm aware you're only getting HD sound from the front left and right and i don't understand people who have said this sounds better than normal dolby digital and DTS because theres no real surround effects. You're just getting in the rears what you're getting in the fronts but of course not uncompressed. So i'd say if you havent a HD reciever stick to DD and DTS,it may not be HD but at least its the proper surround sound track and it's the way the soundtrack is meant to be played.
