Man, this shit is unbearable. I wish they'd be more transparent with these things.

Like I said earlier, the difference in the color grade really stood out in the night scenes and some of the outdoor scenes (like the Badlands scene), and other scenes I was hard pressed to see a difference going back and forth. So definitely not the exact transfer with DV slapped on, but more of a nice refinement than a huge upgrade. It was improved enough that I’d rather watch the ITunes stream than my disc. |

I felt similarly watching the Apple version, which I assume is on the new disc. The proper contrast in the T-Rex breaking out really helped the compositing as the older disc had poor balance and make the T-Rex pop out more and look more artificial. Here, she blends better with the shadows and has the proper black levels.

Last night I was able to compare a number of scenes on the UHD BD to the HDR10 on iTunes last night. It's the same master...even down to the magenta in the grey clouds above Sam Neil's head. Afterward, I went to check in DV but my ATV is not letting me switch over to it for some reason. I think something in my video chain is interfering. It was too late to troubleshoot for very long. Maybe tonight.

I just watched the opening five minutes on both the original UHD and the DV ITunes version. Definitely the same scan imo. The opening shot of Bob Peck has the same little print flicker by his hat as we zoom in on him. The opening titles are perfectly still.

People keep wanting comparisons but Apple DRM is making it extremely difficult. I took some photos of my tv, an OLED in filmmaker mode. The UHD is in standard HDR and Apple is in Dolby Vision. Clearly my iPhone is doing some processing exaggerating the pallets but this should give you an idea of what I mean when I say the magenta push is gone:

![]() Anyway, this new coat of paint definitely makes things look a bit more tempting, but I'm still on the fence as to whether that alone justifies buying this again. In any case I'm only interested in the original JP, so I guess I'll wait for an eventual standalone release (which may never come, I know). |

Question for jpanimation: how does it look in regular HDR (i.e. non-DV)? Have they improved it as well, or is it the same old look?
Because if it's only the DV track that's new, then this release is useless to me, as my projector has no support for DV. |

For those who care, Jurassic Park 3:
Don't know, both my phone and TV automatically do DolbyVision when detected. I can only assume the color pallet is the same across the board now Last edited by jpanimation; 06-04-2025 at 10:09 PM. |
