Given current gender politics, Desperate Living might have found itself to be an unexpected hot-potato. Mole McHenry's rejected "operation" might cause a lot of problems on social media, and Criterion might not want to take the heat. If the Life of Brian stage adaptation almost hit the skids though the line: "You can't have babies", then anything's possible.
It's an odd situation, as Desperate Living had the best reviews out of all of Waters' films up 'til that point, and there are many whom still view it as his masterpiece. It validated Waters' career for numerous critics, and it's a shame that there's no sign of it. If they're waiting for a 50th anniversary release, there's a good chance that Waters might not be here to see it. |
