I know how you feel. For the past like 6 years the same people have been coming over to my house every Friday night to watch movies. I'm the one that buys all the movies (well, now my girlfriend too) and it's all my equipment. But at least I get to say "this is mine, if you touch even the remote I will cut off your fingers and throw them out the window." Plus I get to pick what we watch so I've got that goin for me. But seriously, if I were you, I'd get the sound system. I picture it this way, it's mine. I get to say yes or no to who ever wants to use it (I don't think I've ever actually said yes). But when no one else is here, I still get to enjoy my movies in surround sound. To me, you need the sound to match the picture. If the picture is impressive, the sound has to be equally impressive. It goes both ways, I wouldn't want a 7.1 THX Certified surround sound system for a 13" B&W TV.
