Thumbs up Blu-ray: A success on Black Friday.

From Video Business News:

Quote:
Retailers were also reporting success with Blu-ray set-top sales, according to electronics buyer Pro Group. A number of stores saw Blu-ray player unit sales double over the Black Friday weekend over the same period last year. However, steep price discounts curbed stores' revenue gains for Blu-ray players during the period.
Quote:
"The expectation was to at least double unit sales and the numbers will bear that out," said Pro Group executive director David Workman. "But I'm not sure if there were any dollar increases because of their cost. But if you're tracking on a unit base, the industry will count next generation players as a success."

A Sony Electronics spokesman added, "The Sony team was out at retail across the U.S. from the wee hours of Friday morning and online throughout the holiday weekend. The large crowds were encouraging and initial returns indicate that Blu-ray and LCD TV were clear winners."

Quote:
“We were incredibly excited about customer interest in Blu-ray during Black Friday week,” an Amazon spokeswoman said. “As evidenced in our top-seller lists, the Blu-ray format is very popular with our customers and several of our top-selling titles are selling more in Blu-ray than standard format.”
