ryan4blu,

It happens right around the 2:00 hour mark. Ironhide comes down the street durning the street fight scene. He pivots on his wheels then aims his guns to the ground, fires his cannons, then flips over a screaming women. The low frequency sweep that plays while he is flipping does cause ppl to grin.

But I just watched Teminator Salvation this last weekend and this movie has surpass all of the previous demo worthy films in Sound Quality. Throughtout the movie there are numerous scenes where there is just insane high quality bass. Transformers 1 had maybe 2 or 3 scenes that only lasted for a few seconds to minutes. TS has one scene that goes on for 20 minutes or more. My four subs were just exhausted after the movie ended.

For your other question this is from the VTF-3 manual:

Quote:
Variable Tuning
If you don’t like the air shaking feeling of very deep bass, or if you often listen to extremely loud chest-thumping material that has less deep bass, Maximum Output mode is for you.
You can switch over to Maximum Output mode when the system’s volume level is low or the subwoofer is OFF. There are two steps:
1) Grip and pull out the foam port plug that is inserted in one of the port holes on the back of the subwoofer, or remove the turbo.
2) Flip the BASS EXTENSION switch on the back of the subwoofer to the 2 ports open position.
In technical language, you will get about 4 dB of extra head-room so that bass can be played louder, at the expense of some deep bass
extension. In other words, the subwoofer has been transformed into a louder device with less deep bass.
Switching back is simply a matter of firmly re-inserting the port plug into one of the port holes or attaching a turbo and flipping the
switch back to ‘1 port open’ or ‘1 port open or with turbo’ position. Make sure that the switch setting is consistent with the port setting.
Using the wrong switch position at loud volume levels may damage your subwoofer and void the warranty.
If you get the sub, you can play with the settings to see which one is right for your room.

Hope this helped.

My preference goes in the opposite direction. I watched and researched both brands starting in the late '90s, but was unable to get a decent sub until just a couple years ago. I ended up going with the BTF-3 HO. I think SVS makes great subs, but just felt the Hsu worked better for me. I haven't heard any of the newest models from SVS, and I understand that they have improved their performance with music, but I think in the area of ported subs, Hsu is pretty tops among the ID brands.

Now, I've been thinking that if I am able to upgrade my sub anytime in the near future, unlikely but it could happen, I'd move to a sealed sub and in that case I would be looking at either the ULS from Hsu or one of the Rhythmic Audio subs.

In my opinion, if your listening habits are 50% music and 50% movies and you want a sub that can do both well than it would be the HSUs.

If you will be using your sub primarily for HT the SVS is probably the better choice.

But really, both companies make excellent subs. So it boils down to preference.

Some threads are more popular than others because of the people involved. For example, the Polk Speaker thread is one of the most popular threads. That does not mean that Polk speakers are the best or preferred by most people. It simply means the people are more likely to post something. Most of the time, it is really the off-topic thread.

i hear ya, just read your review on the acoustic audio subs. boy those subs seem to really rock for the value. i mean come on $200 for a 12 inch powered sub seems like a no brainer to me. think ill grab 2

so big daddy do you recommend this sub as a very good sub? i mean i know you can spend thousands on subs, but for $200 are you getting something good and worthy to be in a decent home theater room? thanks

+1!

I keep considering upgrading but then I actually pay attention and realize I dont have the need to....the STF-1 is awesome. Blends in perfectly for movies and music.

OK, I called Hsu and talked with the guys there and they are super cool. Anyways after a lengthy conversation, they told me they still had a brand new VTF-3 MK1 That they would sell to me for $400 plus tax. This sub is about $850 retail.

Here are the specs that I got

250 watts Class AB amp
12" woofer
16 hz extension
Industrial Black finish (he described it as sorta truck bed liner looking)

He said the current amps they use have a little better peak performance, but this sub amp would put about 400 watts peak.

What do you all think?

Ok, great, I think I will. The guy there said it was the model they were selling about 5 years ago and they just happen to still have one that they have not yet moved. If I want it they will take it out and make sure it all still works great and let me pick it up so I don't have to pay shipping.

Talked to wife and she said that sounds cool lets talk more about it when you get home, which is usually the Yes, tell me about it so I will feel confident in saying yes to you.

I dont own an HSU, but I did just order LFM-1 Compact from Outlaw Audio, which is designed by HSU. I have been thinking about getting a STF-2 to match since they are on sale for $319 at the moment. That, or the eD A2-250....I haven't decided yet.
