![]() HOME THEATER ROOM I have several subwoofers. In my home theater room, I have two Def Tech front speakers with 15" powered subwoofers. In addition, I have three external passive subwoofers and one active (powered)subbwoofer. Three of them have been modified with new and more powerful drivers installed in them. See Upgrading & Building Subwoofers thread. In 1998, after spending a couple hours with Dr. Hsu, I purchased two of my subwoofers from Hsu Research. They are large, beautiful, and perform like a pair of angels (I never knew angels could create bass sound ![]() This powerful Cinepro amplifier drives the two subwoofers mentioned above. The third subwoofer in my home theater room was originally a 15" DBX passive subwoofer that I had purchased in 1989-1990. I recently overhauled this subwoofer. It is very large and powerful. This is a picture. ![]() This Pyle Pro volume control and crossover network controls the subwoofer. ![]() This powerful Carver amplifier sends between 1,000 to 2,000 watts to the bad boy mentioned above. ![]() The fourth subwoofer is a 12" powered Acoustic Audio subwoofer. ![]() ![]() ![]() The subwoofers in my home theater room are properly calibrated and create a smooth and even bass across the room for all locations. The bass sound is not boomy and does not rattle the house, although I can easily do that. I am sometimes surprised at people who make exaggerated claims about their single subwoofer that may not even be positioned properly in the room. My conclusion is that their sub needs calibration. TWO-CHANNEL ROOM I recently built this 12" passive subwoofer for my two channel room to supplement my vintage Polk RTA-15TL speakers. The following Hsu crossover and DBX amplifier control the above subwoofer. Last edited by Big Daddy; 06-02-2010 at 05:11 AM. |

I got my STF-2 yesterday. I ordered the thing Friday afternoon at 2:55pm EST, and received it Tuesday at 9:56AM EST, Anaheim, CA to Charlotte, NC, in two business days! That's even with the long weekend for MLK day. Great service by HSU. I haven't had a chance to calibrate it yet or watch a movie, but I have hooked it up. It definitely is an improvement over my PSW-10(which I got for Christmas!?!). When the upgrade bug bites, I guess it has to be scratched. Now, I just may be satisfied...for now...

I ordered my VTF-3 on a Friday morning (California) and it was at my door (New Jersey) on Tuesday morning. I replaced an original VTF-2 (10", 150w) with a VTF-3 MKIII (12", 350w) in Rosenut.
Everyone thinks it is an end table it is so beautiful. And the thing rocks. I have it in a 16 x 16 x 10h room with 2 openings to a 30 x 15 and 13 x 13 rooms and it is glorious. I have the level pretty low so I am not even pushing it hard. |

I love them both. My VTF2 was the original MK1 with the 150w amp. I used it in a fairly small room without many openings.
When I moved to the new house I was just driving it a lot harder than I was comfortable with. But I was trying o fill around 6000 cubic feet. I think the new VTF2 MK3 would have been fine but I like knowing that even set at "3" this sub handle anything I have thrown at it. I have had it for abut 2 months now. I will take some this week and post them ASAP. Last edited by CosmoKid; 01-28-2009 at 03:08 AM. |

I have a STF-1...the cheapest Subwoofer that HSU makes and I LOOOVEE it...I cant imagine what the higher up models are like. If you are looking for a sub for around $300, definitely add it to your list to look at. Its has a fairly small footprint also which I think a lot of people might not know.

I've also been playing with the multiple port set up, and found that only using one port verse two works better for me. It will be great to finally move into a house soon (hoping before too much longer) and be able to crank it back up! |
