(That means I agree with others here )

I buy blu-rays simply because I may not have the opportunity to go, or may not want to go see the film at the cinema theatre. So instead of driving to the theatre, paying for parking, buying a ticket, going out for something to eat/drink before/after the show, buying that crap in the movie theatre (popcorn and candy at inflated prices) ... I save a hell of a lot of money by buying the blu-ray disc. If it's a good movie, I can watch it again, if it's great I can study it, if I love it I can watch it or parts of it again and again.

Of course, if someone wants to take me out, that's different. But often I'll suggest buying the movie, fixing a nice dinner, bottle of wine, candlelight, or whatever at my or another home theatre. With the right person this can be much more rewarding than going out to the commercial theatre.
