Elena is probably the only human in the series that's as much of a main character as the two vampires and I'm glad to see Dobrev continue to get a lot of screen time. I do wonder how they'll end the first season since there will be at least one more.

Probably atleast one aspect would be Elena meeting either Isobel or Katherine, or possibly both for a major shocking cliffhanger!

I actually think
[Show spoiler]the first season will end with 2 climactic fights, one between Damon and Stephen and one between Isobel and Katherine and we don't find out how they turn out until the fall.

I don't know, I just don't see a big epic battle with the brothers just yet. Obviously they won't get rid of either considering the teenage girls and cougars might burn down the studios if they tried to take away Damon from them lol. But I don't really see any reason as of yet for a Katherine and Isobel fight, unless of course you know something I don't. I also wouldn't worry about putting predictions in spoilers lol.

Just being careful, you never know, stuff like that could actually happen. FWIW Damon is the better fighter because he actually eats people and he's far more merciless than his brother.

That's just a nice way of saying Damon is a real vampire and Stefan belongs on Twilight, lol.

Damon is a little too one-dimensional though, as I'm sure you've already seen. He doesn't really have any allies since he tends to kill them and that will cost him dearly somewhere down the line.

In the beginning I really thought it was going to end up like Twilight and I told myself just give it a few more weeks to change its pace and develop the characters and it surprised me. I'm really glad I stuck it out cause they have packed a lot of story into one season so far. Though I would like to see more of Jeremy. Every week I am blown away by how much Jeremy looks like his father Chad, and that his grandfather Steve McQueen has always been my favorite actor ever since I was real young. Three generations of McQueen's ain't doin to bad. Also, where has Tyler been? I am very curious if his "rage" and that glimpse of the moon in one of those early episodes means that we can expect him to grow a lot more hair over the course of this show, lol.

I would even argue this show is almost at the same level as Buffy and Angel got to and with another season on the way it could definitely get there.

Not sure it really is way too early to tell. Buffy's first season wasn't the greatest but I still fell in love with SMG at the tender age of 13, lol. While Nina Dobrev is definitely cute, she doesn't strike me as the sexy fighter that Buffy was, she mostly plays the victim all the time. I like a tough chick can fight in some Lycra

This is exactly what I have been saying to my wife! Buffy is my favorite vamp show and one of the best shows ever. The way Vamp Diaries is going it could seriously start to contend if it goes enough seasons. This first season is already waaaay better than Buffy's first season which I thought was pretty bad. Buffy didn't get going until later on. Just funny you said this because while watching last weeks episode I told my wife "dare I say it, but this is starting to get up to Buffy type level good".

Well in all fareness it's not like Buffy had a predecessor to really base itself on for a very popular vampire boyfriend show, lol. Not to mention the first season of Buffy was only 12 episodes so it didn't have nearly as much time to tell it's original story. Though when it comes to interesting first season.....Vamp Diaries does know how to spin it, cause it doesn't really seem like Elena has any normal in her life lol, her best friend is a witch, her boyfriend is a vamp, her other best friend is fangbanger, her brother is an addict, her parents are dead, her real mother gave her up for adoption and begged to be turned into a vamp, oh and did I mention her boyfriend's brother is the one who turned her mom into a bloodsucker? Oh yeah, there's also the small fact that she is the spitting image of the woman who originally turned the boys 130 years ago. And her brother's teacher wants to be Principal Wood, the Vampire Slayer Also her town is pretty much on it's own Hellmouth which has just been opened. Seems like they have crammed SO MUCH into one season I'm wondering what is going to be left for the future.....

My main problem with Buffy season 1 was that it was just a new monster of the week type thing ever single episode instead of that one cohesive story. It was just all over the place.

I actually like every single season of Buffy except 1 a lot, Buffy was how I found this site, actually. REALLY hoping this series gets a blu release so I can catch up on all the episodes I missed in HD.

Well they must have done something right to have college classes studying the writing style as well as the mythology of Buffy.

I love almost everything about Buffy except the dialogue, the horrible speaking style of most of the characters hurts my head. That said, the girls on this show are MUCH hotter than I thought, just as the show is much better than even I expected.

The Vampire Diaries is the best kept secret on television. The writers have been holding nothing back. Dare I say it, the sharpest writing on episodic television with the decline in Lost this year. A much better take on vampires than the wimpy Twilight.

Yeah, kind of makes me think I'm not missing much by not seeing True Blood, I do intend to check that show out sooner or later though.

Sharpest writing on episodic television?!!?!?!??! Um................Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad are without a doubt the two most brilliantly written and sharpest, so dare you not!!! But yeah in Lost's final season I find myself very underwhelmed as the details come to light. Guess we all had so many theories for such a long time, everything is just disappointing now. The writing here is entertaining I will give you that much.
