Thanks.

Also if any of you know, does the Canada Futureshop have English SDH AND English subtitles?
The reason I'm asking is the one I have only has English SDH and I don't want sound effects in the subtitles, i.e. music playing, dog barks, baby farts, etc.

I dunno, my brain screwed up. It's only a slight improvement on the scene I mentioned. I'm hoping TT and ROTK will be better.
I never saw the first one in theaters (I was 7, XD), so I don't have a reference point, but I doubt it looked this soft in theaters.

I got the physical Blu-ray from Netflix, not streaming or some crap. It's exactly the same disc as what you would buy in a store.
I'm definitely sitting close enough to the TV, and I'm not near-sighted.
I can see a HUGE difference between my National Treasure DVD and Blu-ray.
FOTR, not so much.

What caused the white and purple lines that frame the sides of the picture in several sequences, most notably when Arwen is on the horse in the river? It looks like the crud on the sides of some dvds. The lines span from the top of the matting to the bottom of the matting and disappear and reappear in different shots.

So, anyone besides me going to watch them again soon? I haven't really seen them until this week since 2008 and I really want to see them again. They're even better than I remember, heck I may fire up the special features for once. Just trying to lighten the mood in here.

Watch them again? Hec, I'll take just once....my wife and kids just haven't given me one chance to watch even FOTR the way I need to view it....in darkness with the projector and as loud as I want it. Hopefully soon though....

I watched FOTR for the second time last night. I had even LESS of a problem with the transfer this time around. I just tried to watch the movie. Novel idea, i know.

I watched the first 45 min of FOTR last night, the audio is phenominal. The pq is dull but whatever, for $59.99 I'm content with my purchase.

Like wouldn't you think in several thousand years that you'd get bored and go ahead and see what's on the other side of the river. Or the idea that Treebeard had never heard of Hobbits or the Sire. I mean the Sire is not exactly Rhode Island.
The problem with some of the characters is that we don't know enough of their history. Bombadil is an enigma, and we don't know why he is only concerned about his little patch of land between the Old Forest and Barrow Downs. Being immortal and probably the oldest original inhabitant of Middle Earth, he may have "seen it all" and decided that he didn't need to travel anymore.
Treebeard was probably a big wanderer during the First Age and might have traveled extensively in Beleriand (a huge part of Middle Earth that was destroyed when "The Powers" finally eradicated Morgoth from the scene). He also might have been one of the Ents that took vengeance on the Dwarves that killed Elwe, the King of the Elves in Middle-earth at that time. If that was the case, and Treebeard relocated to Fangorn sometime in the Second Age and decided to stay there, he might have missed the Hobbits since they had only lived in the Shire for about 1400 years. However, at the beginning of LoTR, Sam mentions to his buddies at the tavern that his cousin had seen "Tree-men" near the Shire, so we can assume that at least some Ents knew about Hobbits.
Legolas is the biggest mystery, because being probably at least a couple thousand years old - and a big fan of the woods - why would he only stay in Greenwood (later Mirkwood), and never venture at least to Fangorn, which was relatively nearby?

Sorry to hear about that (I haven't seen it though)

Doesn't Warner use the same "transfer" worldwide?

It's been 6 years since i've read them, but do the books touch on where Hobbits came from. Did they descend from the "river folk" which Smeagol is a part of?

How the hell did Tolkien write all this crap?

i dedicated 3 days into watching this trilogy and for same sad odd reason i want to watch it again. What the hell is wrong with me LOTR has some kinda spell on me. What the HELL!!!

"I see in your eyes, the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come, when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends, and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves, and shattered shields when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! For all that you hold dear, on this good earth, I bit you stand, men of the west!"
